Locked 4th of July

Ham Radio President, Gaylen has mentioned he and Robert Goodale post commander, would like to see more participation of the ham club in other events within the VFW post 3115.. What better time.?

2pm July 4th at the VFW post 3115 there is a POT LUCK for all the VFW family... That would include W?VFW group..

Pot luck means you bring a dish.. Even a jar of pickles ...
Now I don't want to see 8 jars of pickles.. Please....

I don't for see any problems with sitting out on the patio if smoke really bothers you.. I feel the same way..?

NOTE:- it is expected at all the VFW feeds that drinks be bought from the canteen (bar). They do specialize in soda, coffee, tea and ice water.. As usual the bar maids will be circulating talking orders. Please tip them as it is custom.

Final Note- What better 4th of July pot luck dish than Polish Kielbasa and real Polish sauerkraut. That's what I'm bringing..

Locked BIG SUNSPOT ALERT == Expect HF Propagation Effects ===

BIG SUNSPOT ALERT:

One of the biggest sunspots in years is directly facing Earth.

Sunspot AR3354 is 10 times wider than Earth and about 1/3rd the size of the historical Carrington sunspot.

It's so big, observers in Europe and North America are seeing it naked-eye through the smoke of Canadian wildfires.

Earth-directed flares are likely in the days ahead.

Locked Plaque award,

I priced a plaque and 2 arcrylic's..
The plaque is a rosewood back.. We can also put more engraving on it.. It does in various sizes, and can have a "kick stand" added so it can sit on a table. Plaques are about 1/2 the price.. lettering over 40 characters is extra. That AN do a "SLASHED ZERO" .
?

There are many other variants we could order...
I'd like to get this ordered and done by the July meeting..

Bill -Normally I would agree with you, however here's the situation.
Dennis - my dearest ham radio buddy, has had a number of operations for cancer. He is? on a heart pump? and 3 weeks ago at a past VFW Commander's funeral, Dennis informed me he has his kidneys shutting down.
He can no longer walk and is in a motorized wheel chair. He's be air flighted to Kansas City 2-3 times this past year.

Dennis is a Vietnam Veteran. and for those reasons I think a plaque that normally is mounted on a wall, just wouldn't be proper as he's not often in the ham shack or would hang it on? some wall in his house.?

Because of his situation he basically is in a? recliner during the day and a hospital bed at night.
The Acrylic award like "statue" would can easily be placed on a night stand or coffee table and should he be hospitalized, placed at his bed side? to remind him we all care.. I am sure he would be proud of it.? and can easily be taken in his back pack.

For that reason, I favor the Acrylic award... I am open to all suggestions from all the members.
The Acrylic awards are available in many configurations and some are even lighted.. Would make a nice night light.
I still have not heard from the manufacturer if they can engrave a SLASHED ZERO...

The award engraving company has numerous Acrylic awards of various sizes and shapes.? Anyone can view more of those items including the light up ones at:

Enjoy the evening all,

Acrylics are nice but would a plaque on wood be better?

Locked June meeting follow up.

As near as I can tell, the club got started about 2008. I have a JPG dated 3-11-2009 of a W0VFW LOGO.? I have attached it..
Anyhow if there is some documentation as to when exactly W0VFW actually started I'd like to verify the start.

Regarding Dennis Godsbey- I believe the officers should be able to determine and order an award to recognize Dennis's participation in W0VFW as the last remaining? Charter Member.

We have voted to honor him with a life membership and used words such as EMERITUS...

adjective

- Retired but retaining an honorary title corresponding to that held immediately before retirement.
- Honorably discharged from the performance of public duty on account of age, infirmity, or long and faithful services; -- said of an officer of a college or pastor of a church.
- Retired, but retaining an honorific version of previous title; especially used with professor.
I know Dennis was Past President 2 years, and I believe he was president? in the beginning. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý 3-4 terms total. For the 12 years I led the VE testing program, he would open the VFW at 7am for VE exams. as he was a VFW trustee and had keys to the place.

Therefore I believe we should bestow the term PRESIDENT EMERITUS. As the definition allows.

Finally, I have been surfing the following site.. It's one of the BIG Plaque- Awards companies that offers services via the internet. Free Shipping, Free logo's.. Free limited engraving.
It's a company that does it every day and specializes in exactly what we're interested in. They do not only plaques and trophies but crystals and acrylics.. ? I recommend visiting the site and perhaps formulating.
I wish to invite anyone to discuss an awards order with me that we can present at the next EXECUTIVE Board meeting and order perhaps for the July meeting. As they claim 24 hour turn around.

They do have logo's that can be placed on the awards and clicking on their stock logo's they have 1 to 50 year service award logo's.. or we could perhaps do the W0VFW logo that will be on the banner..

Here is the web site for the plaque-awards manufacturer...

Locked Custodian Report- Sidewalk Sale Outcome- plus tonight's raffle.

In order to reduce the HOT AIR at tonight's meeting.? I am making my report in advance.
This is a picture of our W?VFW set up at the Derby Radio Shack Sidewalk Sale. We made 91 dollars, selling surplus un-needed or un-wanted items from our radio room junk box. Our canopy and three 8 foot tables were right off Radio Shacks front door. I set up at 6am to get the primo spot.

This picture was taken after the rain, that kind of dampened things. The sidewalk sale really didn't recover after the rain.? ? Not everything was sold. and an attempt to have a 50/50 raffle and a raffle of a metal morse code-phonetic alphabet sign went by the way side.

I donated the metal sign 9x12 inches approximate. I will have it at tonight's meeting. Suitable for display in any radio room.

I will have raffle tickets for both a 50/50 and the sign drawing tonight to increase our treasury.
Final mention. My Lady Friend Terri Heimerman (past Ladies Auxiliary Vice president VFW 3115) won a oil filled portable heater at the Mulvane American Legion the night before. New in the Box.

She donated it to the W?VFW Radio Club and I had it at the sidewalk sale but forgot to take it out of my back seat. The box is unmarked as to the exact model but on Amazon they sell new for $60-$89.
Now is not the time to sell-raffle it off as it's almost July... But the fall TV raffle we could make it a runner up prize to the TV.

Locked Weekly Nets

All,I spoke with the Post Commander tonight, it appears that our Thursday W0VFW radio net will qualify towards Veteran Outreach hours for the Post.? The Saturday Visually Inconvenienced Hams Net may qualify as Community Outreach hours for the Post as well though that's a squishy area right now.?So, for those who are the weekly Net Control for the W0VFW net I would ask that you log the start/stop times of the net, who checked in.? For those who are members of the W0VFW ARC please let me know if you are a Veteran regardless of you being a member of the Post, its Auxiliary, or Riders club.Patricia H. - I don't know whether or not you provide the Visually Inconvenienced Hams Net with a record of who checks in and participates when you're Net Control but, if you do could you provide me with that information as well?Vic - As previously requested would be so kind as to modify the script to prompt the Net Control of that week to log the requested information?? I'd appreciate it.These hours will help the Post in accumulating hours towards their yearly goals.? I want the ARC to become more active with the Post in ways we are capable of doing. The Post was recently awarded "All State" and "All National" recognition due to hours, and other goals met.? The latter is quite prestigious as there are very stringent requirements to even be considered for "All National" and if I recall correctly we were one of three candidates in the running, although my memory has been somewhat dubious as of late.Either way, if we can "give back" and/or otherwise contribute to the Post meeting their goals we should.I plan on attending the Post House Committee meetings where/when practical so I can get a better idea of how the Post is ran which should help us better integrate and assist the Post and us in our? mission to assist Veterans. As to the weekly trivia question for the W0VFW net I would like some feedback from y'all whether it be good, bad, or indifferent.I look forward to next Tuesday's meeting which, weather permitting, will be held on the south patio.? For those who are not members of the Post, its Auxiliary or those who do not wish to walk through a dense cloud of smoke, the south gate? entrance will be open.Date - 27 June 2023Time - 7 PM or 1900 hoursGaylen W. It will be at 6801 north hydraulic in park city.

From I135 take the park city exit go eat until hydraulic, turn north. Drive until you get to the lions club on the west side of the street.

Locked Field Day

For those assisting with the Field Day activities in Park City.1. Keep track of mileage to/from plus any costs for transportation such as Uber, etc.2. Track the hours you actively participated?3.? Provide a total number of people from the ARC who assisted.4.? We CANNOT fund raise for the W0VFW ARC or the Post in order for our time to count. This counts as community service for the Post as "we" will be educating the public concerning Ham radio and the benefits thereof.Gaylen W. Locked Re: Side Walk Sale Reminder....

I am now in possession of the W?VFW "junk box"... Minus the following items I think we should keep"
100 ft. RG-8X coax- no ends
30-50 ft. RG-8U coax - no ends.
100 feet rotor cable- connector one end.
G5RV jr. 40-10 meter portable antenna on orange roll out spool.
G5RV 80-10 meter portable antenna on orange roll out spool.

I may return to the VFW radio room and grab, our raffle tickets and the 2 ticket containers.. (plus I think I left my talkie there)
I am going to check with Mark at Radio Shack - to see if having a 50/50 raffle and a second- "valuable prize" raffle is O.K. with him. and he allow our drawing in conjunction to his drawing.

The 50/50 raffle I think should be $1 per ticket....
The "valuable prize" raffle - my donation to the club, should be $25 cents per ticket..

My "valuable prize" is an antique reproduction metal sign that has the alphabet on it, with the phonetic alphabet and morse code listed.

Volunteers still needed.. Bring folding chairs and coolers-water-snacks.

I work from 7am to 4 pm m-f I can take a long lunch if necessary. When you are able to get around let me know and I can forward you my meeting schedule from work and we can schedule an appointment with the store manager. We always dressed business casual(slacks and shirt collar) for the appointments. Maybe take the cost of a repeater and see if they want to sponsor one? We used to get between 500 and 2k from a store.
