Locked KD0WPG is there anyone who can help me get on repeaters

I have fought for a year trying to get me baofeng (uv82, uv82hp, uv5r) radios to connect to w0vfw, and wouus. I've tried chirp, I've tried manual programming.? Right now with chirp, I can key up the transmitter. I get the Rodger beep after I release the transmit button.? All 5 radios will talk to each other on simplex.? So they can transmit.? I bought a little frequency counter that Larry showed me, non of the radios are right on frequency but within 100khz.the frequency seems to be close enough that it keys up the repeater, just no voice. I tried to include the chirp file, but it never posted.?

Locked Greetings to all

I would like to have a net on Sunday at 4 PM.?
The agenda for topics will be -?
local news?

Locked Re: W0VFW Ham Club meeting and Test session scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled

Just thinking about the cancelation and the future and I have a few ideas to share.

Our goal here is to keep the club going and to continue in spite of the virus. Thus I share how we might do both.

1. Could we not meet via a conference call rather than in person? The Google Duo app would make this easy. Other such apps also exist for our smart phones. Then you could have a meeting and not be bothered about the virus.

Also this email group can be used to inform people about alternative meeting plans. Info can be easily shared here. Folks who do not email have friends who do and can inform them other ways.

And finally this is a radio club, so what about having a VFW net in order to bring the people together. Of course some matters would not be shared on air, like money specific items. Still this would unite your club members and provide a way of keeping us together.

All this virus stuff has our world turned upside down. Still we can come together if we can but think outside the box. I would be willing to help in any way you need me to. We need to keep us together, not avoid communication at this vital time. This isn’t going to be over at the end of March. Somehow we need to come together and not let the radio club fall apart because of the virus and the new government rules.

Thanks for listening

Locked W0VFW Ham Club meeting and Test session scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled

Patrick Schneweis KC?ZRY

Greetings to all -?
I have decided to cancel the W0VFW Amateur Radio Club meeting and test session we had scheduled for this Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

I decided cancelling all types of meetings (gatherings) was the most sensible thing to do under the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.?
Our next meeting will hopefully take place on April 28th? - the 4th Tuesday in April.?

The club has a few bills to pay from the February 29th Winter Extravaganza event and I'll go ahead and authorize those to be paid in the next few days.? These bills are for the the door prizes, raffles and a couple receipts for the food items.
If any of you are holding receipts related to the Feb 29th event that you intended to turn in at the next club meeting please send them to Mel Graves. His email address is mel.wr0i@....
You will be reimbursed prior to club approval - unusual times create unusual circumstances.
All the bills paid will be presented at the next club meeting for post-payment approval.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks the COVID-19 virus will be overcome and everybody stays healthy as this unfortunate global event runs its course.?
I would like to encourage all of you to take care and be safe.

As of right now, Green Country Hamfest is still on as scheduled, we are monitoring the situation.? There were two known cases of COVID-19 in Tulsa.? both had traveled to Italy.? The first patient has fully recovered.? The status of the second has not been published as far as I know.? They are awaiting test results on a number of other people that are considered to be at risk.? If public health authorities advise us to shutdown we will.? Right now we are considering taking some extra precautions.? Such as having hand sanitizer available around the place.? Also another thing that might affect our decision is if the Expo Center tells us they cannot get supplies for the restrooms or food for the Food Court.

Locked Old Guy- W5KUB Tom Medlin near Memphis still having fun with balloons

Edited

My friend Tom W5KUB who lives in a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee attempted yet again to circumnavigate the world. Maybe as a kid you placed a postcard addressed to yourself on a balloon and never got a reply, or maybe you did. Did you try a note in a bottle? There's a yearning to reach out and discover.

Tom is one of those guys that deserves credit for his failure. Let's look at his success..? Tom attempted yet again to circle the world. He used a little better than a party balloon, and designed a tiny circuit card so hams around the world could track him.? The picture attached shows his payload and the "recovery team" a group of Polish hams who recovered it. See the attached picture..

Not to bore you, but Tom built a 1.5 gram payload. It flew at 40-44,000 feet using a 36 inch diameter balloon. It had 2 transmitters on board. 1 was HF for tracking over the oceans, and the other was VHF. A full description of his adventures can be found at:
Tom does much more, including a Tuesday evening video call in show- the link is

Reason I'm mentioning this is my Rochester NY buddies have assisted schools in their area to build and launch balloons as science projects too. My buddies in Maine will be talking to the International Space Station later this year.. Lot's going on in ham radio...
The HF antenna was 34 feet long and slightly bigger than a hair. Now Memphis to Poland is pretty impressive, there is a ham in England who has circumnavigated the globe multiple times..

Locked Forbes Magazine, Raspberry PI (RPI), Visually inconvenienced, and Jaws Then throw in Ham Radio..

We use a Raspberry Pi (RPI) in both our repeaters. It is our voice ID, our controller and our converter from analog to digital plus steers us onto the internet. The possibilities are unreal.? I see W?VFW Amateur Radio Club going places with RPI and Ham radio within our extended community of Hams and Vets...

Here is a worthwhile article from Forbes Magazine:

Locked Repeater Resurrection

Good Morning - Everyone gearing up for the crazy times we are living in??

Yesterday I received the parts to repair the repeater. The old Final -a Brick- Toshiba S-AV32 is no longer made. Instead we used a direct replacement -by Mitsubishi RH60H1317M1A-201.. which includes a metal case, FET's in push-pull and far superior spurious reduction. I played it 2-3 hours after the repair at my QTH then decided to return it to the VFW.
But- WE are not out of the woods.. as last night because of activity at the VFW the Router noise was again present. After Midnight the noise ceased. But that's not the only problem. COX cable leakage is rearing it's head at my QTH, and the closest COX line is 1/2 mile away. At the same time because of antenna height and location, I hear a W5 Oklahoma repeater on the same frequency. The router problem we have addressed prior and requests to contact the "guy in charger" has gone unanswered. It manifests itself as a bit of white noise during the squelch tail. I am going to attempt to place snap on ferrite chokes on the CAT 5 cables at the router. I researched that router and on the negative side they are known 2 meter noise makers. on the positive side it's claim to be able to handle "up to 45" simultaneous wi-fi connections, is a plus as I've seen 28 cellphones connected.? It is still going to be an issue regarding the Blind Hams Talk Group as that "white noise bursts" is making it in to their worldwide network.
Regarding cable leakage on 145.27 AND distant repeaters being heard. In commercial systems and even a $22 Baofeng can be programmed to eliminate the squelch breaking on the users end. Lot's of newer radio's do not have a squelch knob and squelch settings are "global to the radio" not adjustable to each frequency.

While the repeater was down for repair, I programmed the Transmitter to emit a DCS code of 071... Yaesu's and ICOMS can run split tone operation. I do not know about Kenwood. I don't own them. So if you are getting white noise bursts on 145.27 or hearing other repeaters, set your receiver code to DCS 071 and transmit PL to 103.5.

I just had a QSO with K8LR BOB in Kalamazoo Michigan and he said our audio is very good into the Blind Hams Talk Group. There is a net tonight at 8pm local.. See you there..

Locked Ham Radio Equipment Auction - Equipment in Kansas City, MO. 12-26 March 2020. Internet Bidding

I was sent this about a Ham Radio Auction via the Internet. The equipment is located in Kansas. City (about 200 miles away) So some of these boat anchors, it would be worth driving to pickup.? There are FLEX radio's, Collins, Swan, Galaxy, Kenwood, and old WWII military..

Locked Re: W8LM talking about himself with lots and lots of love...

Sorry to learn of your health issues Larry. Yeah dealing with doctors can sure be frustrating.

Also that part about the lunch tomorrow, the $5 or $6 per person, so can just anybody come or what? If so what are they serving? Just curious.

Thanks for sharing the repeater update info as well.

Locked W8LM talking about himself with lots and lots of love...

Thursday & Friday I had an issues, I went to my witch doctor and a bone cracker... It's probably tension, it may be lack of potassium or magnesium. my cardiologist is not answering his phone. I seem to have developed spurious cramps and almost cramps.? 2 in my chest. Xrays and an EKG shows all normal- "a Cold hearted, self centered? bastard." My cardiologist is not answering once I get past "press 4 to make an appointment" and "your number 11 in line please wait".. I waited 1 hour 45 minutes, at 6pm last night the elevator music and the announcement I was "4th in line". disappeared..
Anyhow I've been prescribed a Nitroglycerin patch...So- DO NOT SHAKE ME!!! I think I'll survive the weekend.. I feel good blood pressure normal.

Regarding the repeater. In a Nutshell I got Brian W1KP's number. He is 35 years 2 way repair in Boston and was a top Vertex dealer. There has been 3-4 revisions of the Final Amplifier board. The Final Amp board we have is an early version of version 2. The Final has been refined and updated. The latest is now power MOSFETS, and metal encased to "eliminate spurious problems".? Only someone who worked on hundred of these over the years would know this.? So a new BRICK is ordered and I expect to receive it later next week.? Finally, the Vertex VXR-7000 repeater is now sold as a Motorola desktop repeater VXR-7000 for $1995 MSRP. Duplexers re-tuned and passed 75 watts continuous for over 5 minutes while being repeatedly dropped 1 inch onto my cement floor.? There is however a broken lock nut on one cavity. We will fabricate something to lock it..Hopefuly after 30+ hours it will work flawless for the next 2-3 years.

I will be at the VFW3115 Aux. Brunch 8:30-Noon. I will be there at 10am tomorrow. It's $5-6 per person.? See you there..?

Locked 2nd W0VFW Dead of Winter Extravaganza thanks to all

Patrick Schneweis KC?ZRY

Greetings,

I would like to thank all who contributed time and effort to help make the club’s 2nd Dead Winter Extravaganza a success.

Per the sign-in sheet, we had 16 members and 28 guests attend the event.

We gained one new member whom I will follow-up with before the next meeting.

Counting the new member we have 20 active members.? The member participation rate was 16/20 or 80%.? This is fantastic – thanks to all.?? Our club is alive and well and we let people know it last Saturday!!?

I asked the VFW Post waitress what she thought of the afternoon event.? From her perspective, she thought it was a success because people came and enjoyed chilling out with friends.? This is exactly what we wanted to accomplish.

?

If you are wondering if we made any money, well … that didn’t happen.? I don’t have the final numbers but when it is 70 degrees at the end of February in Kansas, it’s tough to pull people to an inside event.? I feel confident in saying there were some who planned on coming but, the temptation of working in the yard or the garden spot got the better of their intentions.? We had a very good attendance under the circumstances.

?

In summary, I again thank all who contributed their time and effort to make the event a total success.

73,

Take care and be safe

Locked February 29th Event

Hello Radio Friends

Just want to share my thoughts on yesterday’s event. ?It went well in my option thanks to the hard work of many members. Yes it takes a team to do what we did and the team worked well together.?

As we are trying to build up our club I want to thank several folks who I believe made this a successful event. Likely I won’t get them all, as some I know and some I do not, however, I do want to encourage as we learn to work together.

First I want to thank President Pat. You did a fine job guiding me to the front to speak and giving me a chance to share about Visually Inconvenienced Hams. You directed much of what went on and you did it well. You are a pleasure to work with.

Also I would like to thank Larry and Terri. Terri your chilli and dogs tasted great. Thank you for welcoming us and even showing me where to take a seat. You Terri are quite the blessing to this club. And Larry thank you for showing me your DMR radio, getting me some lunch, and for acting as host for our event. I think you actually enjoyed giving out prizes. Job well done.

Thanks also goes out to Coach who did quite a setup outside. I heard loads of good remarks about the amazing go box and the HF you had up and running out there.?

Thank you Jennifer for your help getting folks all signed up. Because of your diligence we have records of those who came to this fine event.

This email could go on much longer, however, I don’t want to write a book lol. If I didn’t mention you please know your work was appreciated. It is my hope we will all work together on more events this fine year of 2020.
