May meeting post mortium.
I saw headWAY being made along with some setbacks.
Setback being the WARC situation for field days.. Typical of my 15 year dealing with that group since I 1st came to Wichita, attended 3-4 meetings at the Red Cross and was never asked who I was, if was a ham and if I wanted to join. I have other stories but my opinion only. FYI they have VE ham Testing June 3rd. Just saying, I am convinced it's the water here in Wichita, as living elsewhere and belonging to other ham radio clubs. as my QRZ brag lists clubs I've belonged to over my many years. And I was dumb enough to pay my dues for next year all ready... The second set back - Gaylen..his operation next week. So I think it behooves all of us to pitch in becasue it's not his fault he an old sailor. topics we need to address - either here by comment or at the exec board meeting. 1#. I am making headway on my rental. I have received a partial insurance payment for some of the damage the tenant did. However try getting a contractor these days. I have a guy that has 3 projects he's juggling plus he was to start enclosing my back porch 2 months ago, A project we agreed to over a year ago. Fortunately, this contractor is a good Christian and hard working. Anyone want to see his work. I am impressed. Still my rental is out of commission and not income producing. 2#. I have a table for the June 3rd Dallas fort Worth Hamfest. I will be gone June 2-3 as I need to get rid of things that are pre-covid and hamfests shut down for 2-3 years. 3#. I do have an opinion that June, July, August and September.. We have the meetings in the Patio.. I and others would trade heat for smoke. A topic the exec board to recommend. Patio heat is still better than air conditioned smoke. 4#. We almost need to move prior to the EXEC meeting. regarding a junkbox of "stuff" we have in the ham shack. I will obtain permission of the Commander as it is VFW property, to be able to sell it at the Derby Radio Shack Side Walk Sale. A. I have a brand new never used 10x10 canopy. B. I have 3- 8 foot folding tables C. I have a cash box I can load with about $40 in change ( everyone has $20's and want to buy a $1 item) seed money we can start with. D. I can get tHere at 5am and set up the canopy and get a good spot. E. I MUST HAVE HELP. SO HELP ME - I AM NOT DOING IT ALONE!!! My supposed to last 10 years pig valve will be over 12 at the sidewalk sale. F. If someone has an item to donate to the tables with proceeds to the VFW you would bring the tables. G. Anything not sold (VFW historically has asked for a donation) Will go into the dumpster.. or you take it home. no exceptions. H. Years past we rotated crews with trips across the street for breakfast.. J. Someone could bring a cooler with bottled water and or donuts for workers. k. The would run from 5am till Noon.. I believe June 17 as Field Days is June 24-25. L. Our selling junk and donations at the Sidewalk sale and at hamfests years prior has been the only revenue the club has except for membership dues. Comments ? Volunteers? please Reply.. Larry W8LM. |

Encrypted Government Mandate Activated
Hi, it's Chuck in KC,
Just wanted to ask you for your area findings and what if any plan of action your CERT/RACES teams have regarding this sudden blackout. Due to work issues, I have been out of my home city for almost a month. When I got home I found a major outbreak of criminal gang activity. One of my responses was to turn on my high-dollar trunk tracking scanner. I was shocked due to what I haven't been able to hear. What I was seeing wasn't generating normal radio traffic. I posted a similar question on Larry's List on a Yahoo group like this. My response was somewhat shocking. I received a lot of direct contact responses because they didn't want to be seen by outsiders. A general summary of what was said is this. " Police Departments requested the Federal Government to start the in-mandate phase to blackout all government radio communication. This includes: 1. Weather alerts and emergencies Live ground truth reports we as CERT & RACES make use of.... 2. Live Fire Dept and SAR ground Thuth reports that we would Make us off in CERT & RACES... I know a few of you in this group have leadership positions in emergency management. In closing, I have talked about this on several radio nets in my area and everyone was surprised Also, a few responders said we needed to set up a special radio net on 2M/FM just for CERT&RACES hams in all groups in East Kansas due to the possible need for mutual aid due to the low number of hams doing this work. They would like to start this on field day late afternoon. I think 6M/FM would also be good. I am putting up a base antenna for this over the next few days any way. 73s Chuck Digby KB0TOT 913/648-2585 Masterdowser@... |

She sounds like my kind of YL there Larry, an example to YLs to not be held back just because we are women in a hobby dominated by men. I hope I can be such an example. Blessings Pat On May 21, 2023, at 9:47 AM, Larry Macionski via groups.io <am_fm_radio@...> wrote: |

N8NCC (SK) +22
To all W?VFW members here.
Ann Marie N8NCC passed away 22 years ago today. Actually she was a ham before we were married. Obtained her Novice 1st than her Tech. license. She was interested in public service, and enjoyed Field days- in the kitchen at the Field days, attending hamfests and meeting other hams. Especially ham couples. We had a little hamfest business "ANN-tennas" so we traveled weekend in her mini-van. Maybe someday I'll resurrect it. When we lived in Royal Oak, Michigan. One day we were grocery shopping and she disappeared. I found her in the produce section and she was talking to none other than Dr. Jack Kevorkian- Doctor Death. . So I went off and finished shopping. I never asked what they spoke of. I wonder. Another favorite story about her. She signed up to be a net control operator for the famous 5 state -multi day Tour de Dupont bicycle race. It covered parts of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington DC. There were guys that poo-pooed a XYL as net control. Little did they know she has Skywarn and public service net control jobs in Detroit, before moving to Northern Virginia. Net control forwarded information from check points to the judges, as well as coordinating, sag-wagons and 1st aid. Big operation involving hundreds of people. She handled the net the with such professionalism, they extended her time and invited her back the remaining days and the following year. She died suddenly post surgical and was 38 years old at time of her death. Her son obtained her call sign a few years later. He became a member of VFW post 3115 and the W?VFW Amateur Radio Club as well. She is buried with her parents and our son in the Shenandoah Valley of West Virginia about 50 miles due west of Washington DC. The N8NCC call continues as a club callsign and as the ID on a UHF repeater and soon a wide area ALLSTAR node locally here. The tower erection has been delayed but I hope to complete it soon. It will increase coverage of both tremendously. Thanks for reading, Larry W8LM ARRL Life Member- Licensed 57 years |

That mostly effects HF... I think you have a problem with your rig antenna or antenna location on your truck. |

REVERSED-POLARITY SUNSPOT EXPLODES
A rare reversed-polarity sunspot exploded today, producing a long-lasting M-class solar flare and a CME that might hit Earth. Geomagnetic storms are possible this weekend if/when the CME arrives.

You did not indicate if you were on the repeater or on simplex. #7. If repeater. did you verify your PL tone with another receiver? #8. What is the brand of your radio? #9. What make is the antenna, many of these off brand antennas are designed for 136-174mhz and work best in the 155mhz region. Not ham. #10 did you program the radio manually, or program it with software... The difference, programming manually, requires that you save multiple time. Frequency, offset and PL. Progammin with software the software downloads to the radio and does a "master" save.. that pretty much saves everything. |

Re: Post network
My apologies to the entire Club membership-.
I am close to being over welmed in retirement. One long term renter I had left. I was given a 6 months notice and it wound up to be 7 months. Basically because she was elderly and did not want to move in the middle of the winter, plus she was on a list of elderly assisted housing, and of course openings occur with out any advance notice (people die) and that not happening like with covid.. Covid kind of weeded out the less of the fittest.. like in survival of the fittest. So that's was a known issue of repaint- refurbish the rental. as one would do after 5 years. But it doesn;t stop there. But I had another renter into 18 months of a 2 year lease, that disappeared in the night. 2 days before April rent was due without fore warning. Back before Thanksgiving he said he was changing jobs- New Job was a Texas company but that he would be working out of the rental. Well he had gone through a contested divorce and his kids were taken away by the X. and he took it out on the property., To the tune of over $6000. We are repairing the house and into 1 month of work. I also had to hire a contractor because Mulvane - a tight community. You must use a licensed contractor unless your are a homeowner residing at the property. So I am working under the contractor... painting, plastering. If the next renter is a ham, I would allow antennas. of course with in reason. but it has some very mature Oak trees 50 feet high. and a big back yard. Then of course I have my place, had a calf, feed the animals, I did go to Claremore to unload some radio equipment, Covid has kept me grom reducing my ham radio type treasure, I go to hamfests for.. It's time to off load items I probably will never use. I am contemplating going to the Nebraska State ARRL Convention May 13th. I have the UHF repeater that after repair, if we can repair due to Vertex is out of business, Motorola bought it to kill the competition. at UHF parts on the final board are special surface mount . Plus we know the repeater is 1.75KC low. adjustment of the master oscillator is under the control board..and difficult to adjust I have done the VHF repeater. My repeater tower is in limbo - The hole was dug, Cement poured, base placed. and 1st 20 feet installed. It needs to be bracketed to the side of my pole barn. Since the wall is sheet metal, it has been re-inforced internally by 2x6's to the 4x6's that exist to be sturdy enough to stabilize the tower to 50 feet with a comet GP 9 15 foot antenna on top. Low loss all copper double shielded coax has been ordered and received from Italy - connectors installed and and the coax sweept tested to 1Ghz. Plans include a UHF repeater, a GMRS repeater and a wide area access ALLSTAR node on 2 meters. All that is missing is time. So the other day, because of all of this going one and commitments at the Derby VFW (Friday night Steak night open to the public) and Mulvane American Legion.. doing laundry, feeding animals, paying bills. vacuuming and dusting, fixing fences and roof leaks. and the last 55mph wind day took my Windom antenna down at the end insulator, So I have to fix that even.. Maybe today after barnyard 1st grass mowing. provided the lawn tractor starts.. and gets it's oil and filter changed. Then the VFW3115 is 22 miles from my house. So a internet cable plug in takes longer to drive there than the time it takes to fix it. All the above has caused delays in providing service to maintaining the equipment as Custodian.
