Up for Grabs.....Free and not free....
Good morning brother and sister ham radio operators.
I have come into posession of an OLD XP computer... A buddy wanted me to remove his files from it and I did.. He told me to throw if out... Normally I'd sell it for money, but....instead I'll offer it to anyone that wants to take a drive to Mulvane to get it. Yes it is a 32 bit XP machine.. You can keep XP on it, perhaps 32 bit windows 7 couldbe loaded on it.. ( i have a copy) or-- one of the many versions of LINUX... However- it's good enough to run HAMCLOCK, or even WXJT-X or FLDIGI...those will run on XP or Linux. It has:3 inch floppyA CD romA CD rom writerC dive is 80 Gbytes ATA100.even a modem card. Serial ports and 4 USB ports100base T ethernet connection. All you need to add is KVM- Keyboard, Video and Mouse.. Plus a 120VAC power cord.. it has an old copy of Microsoft Office- Word, Exel, and Outlook...It's in a mid tower case.. white vintage.. The above computer? is free.... **** Next I have for sale $200.HUSTLER 5BTV 5 Band Vertical Antenna....It's slightly used but sat outside last winter, but is still mostly shiny so it's not old. New these antennas are $259...I checked a couple of dealers and most are out of stock...if you want a new one. These Antenna's are proven world wide for the last 40 years....Handle 1KW.... 1st offering is to the Club as I have 2 tables next month at Claremore ARRL Oklahoma State convention (all tables sold out)? and will take it there and sell it for sure... ? ? ?. This shows that emergency communication extends beyond storm spotting. Nothing in the way of an update or showing amateur radio in use has been found by me to date.

Texas Wildfire Ham News
Good morning,
Just wanted to let you know that Texas RACES is active during the historic wildlife events. I have looked for information about Oklahoma groups and haven't found any yet. This is from the official state website. I personally haven't been too active due to spin off from CV exposure health issues. I hope to start work on one of my base station antenna late this afternoon. I have been doing some work also on my 6M/FM base antenna also. I might have it fixed. 73's Chuck Digby --KB0TOT " Larrys-List | FYI Topics Date State of Texas>>>Wildfire KB0TOT Chuck Feb 29 ? Thursday, February 29, 2024? [?]High Frequency (HF) nets have been activated and are providing public service information to residents with amateur radios in isolated areas. On February 28, Verizon reported the damaged network was back online and cellular sites have been rerouted. The Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC) reported Public Safety Access Points (PSAP) in the Panhandle have contingency plans in place to re- route 9-1-1 calls. Several circuits have been re-routed due to non-fire issues with back-up connections due to interruptions from high winds. Cellular partners and Communications platform owners are aware of the situation and are standing by to provide mobile support resources. Other Private Sector Partners have reached out to offer assistance and resources. Radio Club Meeting - New Business tabled at December meeting, missed at January meeting.
I could not make the January meeting because of some health problems that have caused some lingering issues. We've been fighting insurance which does not want to pay for Diagnostic procedures. So an actual diagnosis is unknown at this time. Insurance approved 3 procedures, 1 is scheduled for 2/15 at Westley a second 2/19 at Rock Regional Hospital and the 3rd has not been scheduled as it was only approved yesterday. Should the diagnosis point to a surgical procedure I refuse to have it done in Wichita but Instead will return to Detroit where top surgeons in the field reside at William Beaumont Medical center or Henry Ford Hospital.
I see from other postings I am not the only member having medical issues. I wish everyone health and happiness... 2023 was not a good year, but I have high hopes for 2024. Especially since minutes ago Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring. My parents grew up only 40-50 miles from Punxsutawney and during the depression winters there was a big dang deal... Prior to the closing of RADIO SHACK in DERBY (RIP- now a cigar shop! and flooring outlet) Mark asked me if I would host his SIDEWALK SALE in my pasture 2 miles down the road.. My issue was even though my house has 2 bathrooms, I just can't let 200 strangers into my home-- especially with all the gold, jewels, drugs, guns and loose women laying about.. Besides the pasture has cow pies that city slickers do not know how to avoid stepping in them. Mark has had the RADIO SHACK SIDEWALK SALE for 20 years... THIS IS THE PRIME TIME FOR W?VFW TO STEP-UP... Time to take over this 20 year annual event. I do not want to see it go to another club, The "SIDEWALK SALE" is always the Saturday before Field Days.. June 15th.. This could be a money maker for us!!!...Since it's a Saturday Morning our post parking lot will be empty. Hams even come up from OKLAHOMA to Derby, I don't think it's impossible to fill the parking lot with flea market trunk sales... I am not going to do this by myself... I may be down 2-3 months if surgery is required. The club can sell the following.... Coffee, soda - water breakfast and lunch (hot dogs) 1st parking space is free additional spaces are $10... 50/50 raffle membership to the club.... if a club member 2nd flea market space is 50% off, likewise food and drink.. raffle a radio, HT, antenna, blah blah... We could sell inside tables in the back area of the post... in case someone wants a roof for protection and a chair to sit in.. We can reserve the parking lot. and advertise in QST and other groups (Facebook -520 crew, Ham Radio 2.0) but we need to commit ASAP.. I feel 5 people in the committee would cover it all and we would have backup should someone get shot.. A decision needs to be made by the next meeting February 27th.... discussion can follow this thread. if you'd like to comment pro or con. It's your club too.. |
