In terms of the rules I have experienced at my internship site (Holiday Express), I have noticed that the environment is very relaxed. We have a small staff, made up of four women, and I see them go the extra mile to ensure that the work environment is comfortable. Everyone is also treated equally, and no positions are seen as "better" than another- in just a few short days, I've already been tasked with independently writing and submitting a grant for funding. Similarly, the work process requires me to be very self-directed; even though my supervisor is always willing to help, we are put in separate rooms, so I have had to work through confusing snags by myself where, in different circumstances, I might have felt more comfortable having a second pair of eyes with me. In spite of that, though, I remain frequently in touch with my supervisor because her office is relatively close to mine, so she will sometimes have me sit in on a call, or go over another aspect of the grant writing process with me in person. I am grateful for all of the support of the women I serve with!
