Ive downloaded 4.7.7 and not seeing it.? Is there a process to enable or make this visible?? Would be good when using with local public safety agencies using their callsign.

Same here.?

Best regards,

Gary, K7EK

It will be in the settings menu tab WHEN you first have winlink open and open the VARA HF Session.? Otherwise you do not see the option in the Settings TAB

Hmmm. What about BPQ32? Not everyone uses Winlink Express, RMS Relay, RMS Trimode, etc.

Excellent and thanks to all that made this possible. 73 Nigel ZL2SEA

Looks like the option appears only when you have a qualifying callsign entered in the Setup. Ham calls have only a max of two letters in prefix, encryption requires three.

Where is there documentation defining the process to use the encryption option in 4.7.7? My station meets the requirements for non HAM operation

Its secret -)

But you could try this?

You have to enter your special callsign in your? App ,? Winlink Express.? Vara chat what ever you are using to link? to the modem?
[Note the Vara Modem and Vara Chat app are backwards compatible? to? ?WIN-XP]??

Then you can open the Encryption menu in VARA settings menu?
which allows the? modem to be? configured with the? Non-Ham
identifier ,?

You select?encryption in the Pactor Settings.? You'll need to contact Farallon in order to enable encryption with the modem.

Hi Jim,

For non-ham operations (CFARS)? I use encryption both with VARA (nice to have!) and PACTOR.?

How foes VARA modem work with PACTOR which is a modem too?
You really scratched my curiousity!

In the past VARA has worked very well with pactor using BPQ or Winlink to poll both modems. Its using one or the other. Not both at the same time. I am hoping that the powers that be will allow AF MARS to resume using VARA with this new encryption method.

i should have explained further. I already was using a physical PACTOR DR-7800 modem which includes SCS ALE and AES256 firmware. I use CoolTerm to control it as the SCS Chat ALE software does not allow full of the modem. NOW VARA HF Winlink (and P2P) have the encryption option) so a number of operators are using that over buying an expensive PACTOR modem. The VARA encryption is working well so far. When you connect to another station the VARA screen turns a nice ORANGE colour to alert you tht encryption is running. Of course I am using VARA's own included software modem. So far so good!

-Q Has the? pactor modem,? Ham call? restriction ??

Tnx- Graham?

I have found that running both SHARES and amateur with the 7800 set to P4 when using amateur RMSs, it only links at P3 speeds.?

Not a scientific study. Just my observations.?

Where are those "amateur RMSs" located? If they're in the US, perhaps the controlling software on the RMS side is setting their modem to max out at P3.

Or, perhaps, the "amateur RMS" has an older PACTOR modem that is limited to P3.

I would expect that. The amateur RMS is restricted to P3.?
