Re: VARA HF using Winlink on IC-7610 using LAN connection
Winlink doesn't change the MOD Input. ?It selects a digital mode (e.g. Data 2) and then you get whatever the input is for that mode. ?Look at the radio when you are transmitting; you should see a D followed by a number where you would otherwise see USB/LSB/FM. ?Then in the connectors menu go to that data mode and set it to LAN. Re: Yaesu 891 & VARA
Hi Merlin,
?
pse fill in the details like shown in the yellow part for use with a COM Port (I'm using TCP):
?
Depending of how you set up the Data BFO, you might want to change in VarAC_cat_commands.ini:
[Yaesu FT-891] ... ModeUSB_D=MD0C; concerning Upper Side Band usage in Data mode. ?

Re: VARA HF Starts Out Fast... Then Slows Down
Keep in mind that the VARA modem is adaptive.? It will start out at a high rate and the sending station will transmit a five second data burst, the receiving station will then transmit a short ACK burst that ends with a go faster or go slower indicator.? This depends on how much?error correction or?retransmission request the receiving?station encounters.? There may?be a bottleneck somewhere in your path,?either RF (only 10 Watts) or in your WiFi link.. On Tue, Oct 1, 2024 at 5:47?AM dustingreen via <dustingreen=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: VARA HF Starts Out Fast... Then Slows Down
Good evening all,
?
I have a similar situation, but different set up. ?I am running an IC 705 (10 watts). ?I have it connected wirelessly to my MacBook (I can either direct connect or via router). ?VARA HF and Winlink are running via VMWare Fusion on my MacBook M2. ?It is a pretty slick setup--as I can play radio anywhere I want. ?When I connect, I will often start out at around 1000 BPM, then after each "packet" is sent the speed progressively gets slower and slower. ?On the final packet, I might be down to around 100 BPM. ?At first I thought it may have been deteriorating propagation, but this happens with every connection. ?If it was RFI somewhere, I wouldn't expect to be getting a great BPM for the first few "packets." ?Half of the message is complete in the first "packet." ?Any suggestions?
?
Thanks,

Re: Winlink with VARA HF modem on SSB and an old Yaesu FT847
How is PTT being managed from the Winlink end?
?
Is there an expectation that VOX is being handled inside the SignalinkUSB to do the PTT, or is it via CAT Control?
?
Personally, I use CAT Control and I have the exact same setup as this scenario, with an older SignalinkUSB.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCheck to make sure that Left or Both
are selected for the output device channel (not right).? The
SignaLink, while including a stereo CODEC, does not process
"right" channel transmit audio.

Forgive me, folks, I'm old and didn't the message part about Vara FM.
?
I find that the USB audio codec needs to be Mic (Record)> 2 on the sound menu setting. Speaker (Playback) set at 100%? 73

Winlink with VARA HF modem on SSB and an old Yaesu FT847
A friend of mine has the following:
?
Yaesu FT847 and a SignaLink sound card and VARA HF sound card modem (latest version)
?
?
He has this combination working fine on HF bands with Fldigi and the SignaLink.
?
He has not been successful getting the FT847 working with Winlink Express
using the VARA HF modem, and the SignaLink.
?
That is, the PTT is not working. He has no TX audio.
The SignaLink RED PTT light is NOT coming on when he presses TUNE on the VARA HF modem.
?
Any ideas how to trouble shoot this issue.
I am NOT talking about using the radio with the VARA FM modem, on 2m band.
?
I am strictly asking about using the FT847 and a common SignaLink (DLY set to minimum)
and Winlink Express.
?
?
Thank you,
Barry K3EUI

Vara fm and D74
I have vara fm working well with my kx3 and? ic705. Is there any reason I will be frustrated getting it to work with a kenwood d74? I am looking at a Didgirig for the d74. My kx3 is interfaced with a Signalink and the ic705 goes directly to the pc via USB. I've heard the d74 isn't as easy. Brian VE3GMZ? |
Re: "new" TM-271- HOW TO CONNECT
I have two radios, both used on a Masters DRA-45.
?
Both radios show auto tune / ping of S/N 19 to 24 depending on conditions, and VU - 20.
?
I am communicating / testing with an RMS set to wide.
?
The Alinco DR-150 TEQ (from 2000) has a "9600" port on the back.? It is a 1/16 trs connection and the PTT uses the mike PTT terminals.
?
The Kenwood "Ebay from China" TM-271-A (M3) appears to actually be a TM-281 with market 3 software.? I found solder pads as detailed above.
?
There is a statement in the Alinco Manual that (Packet) speeds above 9,600 will cause Gaussian noise and degrade the snr.
?
Both radios do better on narrow, then they do on Wide.?

What is your "other radio", and what are you using for the rig-interface device? How is the rig-interface device connected to the "other radio"... data jack (mini-DIN6), or mic/spkr connector(s)?

What kinds of 'Ping" or Auto-Tune results are you getting for the stations you're connecting to with the "other radio"... to make those performance assessments? Are those stations configured for VARA FM WIDE?
