Re: Can't get the Dang VARA to run correctly
Jeff, Double check the location of VARA.exe. Use your file manager/Windows Explorer. As I recall, VARA wants to install itself in the Program Files (x86) directory. I steered my install to the root

Re: Can't get the Dang VARA to run correctly
Jeff, Look in the Windows event logs under Applications and see if there's anything there. It acts like there is a conflict, like a port conflict or other resource conflict. Usually, Windows will warn

Jeff, That eliminates the Windows 10 lockout then. I see Jerry suggesting white-listing VARA in your anit-virus program. I wouldn't re-install RMS Express. It shouldn't be a host program problem. I

Re: Curious findings...
Winlink is an organization, not a mode or a modem. I agree that we shouldn't get hung up with misinformation and stick to the subject of the group. Hope to hear you using VARA when propagation

Re: Curious findings...
I've have lots of reservations regarding the Winlink group since it was introduced in the 90's. I don't like that radio traffic is so easily routed to the internet, depriving RF networks of activity.

Re: Curious findings...
All of our gateway operators only allow messages originated by hams, so has not been a problem for us. Like any tool, Winlink can be misused. And there are other tools that we can use like Fldigi that

Re: Curious findings...
Winlink is not a good thing to have a ham radio project associated with. As far as I know, the gateway operators never make sure the messages they are sending are signed by a ham. If they are not

Curious findings...
I'm wondering why this thread died... https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/vara-hf-digital-mode-for-winlink.599833/page-4 Maybe it was the presumption that it was linked to Winlink? Discontent
