Re: Changing my grid block on WinLink / Vara HF
Yigal, Harley; This isn't a VARA question... What version of Winlink Express are you using? My Winlink Express 1.7.21.0 "Winlink Express Properties" (Settings -> Winlink Express Setup...) wndow looks

Re: Changing my grid block on WinLink / Vara HF
My version of Winlink Express only allows Lat and Lon and not using grid squares for location on the Setyings page. If you hook a small USB GPS to your computer you can configure Winlink to use it.

Re: Questions on Running 40m VARA APRS mobile
This is a quite normal and typical range for 40 meters in the daytime. The range will lengthen out to continental or DX after dark.? 80 will have a daytime NVIS range of 200 miles or so in the

Re: Questions on Running 40m VARA APRS mobile
Thanks for the advice. I¡¯m running a pair of shark sticks as a dipole centered inside a pvc drain pipe radome on the lumber rack of the truck. It does well in daytime down to 1 Watt but not out past

Re: Questions on Running 40m VARA APRS mobile
Also it covers beyond the west coast. Especially at night. As long as you're within NVIS coverage during the day, you'll be good as well. There are stations not on the west coast on 40m. We aren't

Re: Questions on Running 40m VARA APRS mobile
It's a public network for hams. Use it as needed. That's why it's there. With pinpoint I'd suggest no less than 2 minute intervals, and no less than 30 stationary. Obviously you can't really do this

Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
I never said you could use VARA on KAM. All I mentioned was what are modes typically used on VHF FM.
Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
Theoretically yes.? In practice, no? The KAMs are radio modems intended primarily to be used in a command-line mode from an ASCII terminal or terminal app on a computer. You switch from the VHF to

Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
I'm not sure about the other modes, but Pactor (or Pactor 1) seems to be supported by very few HF gateways. Those might be gateways that are still using older versions of Trimode... IDK, but I vaguely

Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
Are any of the modes that the KAM+ are capable of even still in use anymore? I was planning to use it on both HF and VHF packet since it has the two ports, I wouldn't have to swap connections back and

Questions on Running 40m VARA APRS mobile
1) May I try out mobile 40m VARA APRS on your West coast network? 2) APRS client is Pinpoint APRS. If you folks do not mind me trying this out on the West coast network, what beaconing interval would

That's strange that you can't join the group. The last email I got from that forum was January 11, 2025. Were you going to use the KAM + for anything other than packet? With the soundcard interface

Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
Why even bother with the archaic hardware TNC?? Use the soundcard interface for everything!? I have done extensive controlled tests of hardware vs soundcard "soft TNCs" like the "UZ7HO Soundmodem"

I keep trying to join that forum, and it must be abandoned by the admins. I'll have to check and see whether I'm already on software carrier detect, I may be. The advice to use 9600 line I will take.

Re: Need help with a FTM-300 using the data jack
Since it seems to work ok with the squelch open, wouldn't it be better to set CD to SOFTWARE and leave the squelch open? I have my packet gateway's KPC3+ CD set to INTERNAL with the squelch closed and
