Well after running for many days.. I come home today and VARA is not running come to find out the vara.exe in both of my vara and vara2 folders is gone. I already excluded them from AV Scans.. Not sure what could have happened investigating.

Re: Just a Pipe Dream???

Hi Jeff and?Dave ?I checked again and no they are all correct.. In fact if I disable one at a time in config file they all rx/tx the proper rig, Only when all 3 are enable does the VARAHF also keys the VHF Rig and so does VARA FM..

I may abandon this for now... I still have ARDOP working on the VHF RIg running ardopc under the Linux box..

I may take this up again down the road.. Thanks for assist. 73 jerry

Re: Just a Pipe Dream???

Any chance the VARA FM transmit soundcard setting is on the other Signalink.? In other words, the receive is set right to the VHF SIgnalink, but the transmit got switched over to the HF side?? I've done that a few times.? Receive side looked fine on the waterfall, but was transmitting on the wrong SIgnalink.

By the way, I have run three Signalinks on the same computer with no problems, so I know it can be done.? Two Signalinks on HF and one on VHF.

I did briefly looked at all this last evening..
All three work if I disable any one the other two work perfectly correctly.. Its when I have all three that the one for the 706 tx's on the VHF rig so not only does the VARA-FM TX the VHF port so does one of my VARF HF ports..
Signalink PTT is I think just a VOX Function have to have enough TX audio to key.. If I am not mistaken..

A Windoze issue? What does Windoze Device Manager tell you? Do all three light up? Any errors showing? Port issues? How does Signal link handle PTT? Could be a config file problem? You probably have already checked these.

Yes, that's what the VARA modem Graphic User Interface (GUI) looks like.

Does RMS Ex. hide the modem window for Winmor? What might be happening
is the host program, RMS EX., hides the modem graphic after it starts
the modem. Did you try holding the ALT key and then press the TAB key to
see the open applications? Is VARA one of them? Start things up again
and check.

Have you tried making a VARA call? I think it's running, just the GUI is
hidden because after VARA is started, the host program doesn't need it.
The graphic is just a pretty picture. The modem doesn't need the GUI to
function.

You might have better luck troubleshooting if you worked with someone
who runs RMS Express.

I have the program here but I don't have time to play with it.

Jeff,

Tell me about the display.

Could it be that VARA is running but you just can't see the graphic?

Look at the VARA.ini file in the VARA directory and see that values are
in the Position section. The listing is Top Position = (value) and Left
Postion = (value) The numbers are indicating the number of pixels from
the top left corner of the screen to the top left corner of the VARA
graphic display. If the value shown is larger than the pixel size of
your display, the graphic won't be visible, it will be "off screen".

(In Windows 10, click the Start icon and type Display, then look for the
resolution setting. You should be using the recommended setting. The
VARA Position settings should be about half of the Windows numbers to be
visable on the screen.)

The top left corner of your display is 0,0. You can edit this file with
your text editor (note pad). Shut down RMS Express and the VARA modem
before editing the file. Put a number like 20 in both position values
and save the file. Restart VARA and RMS Express and see if the position
of the graphic remains on the screen.

Also, does RMS Express start the VARA modem itself, or do you have to
start it manually? I've read that if you start it manually, you should
start VARA modem first.

Just a thought. This may not be the problem at all, but it's worth checking.

Re: Can't get the Dang VARA to run correctly

Jeff,

Are you using a desk top or a lap top?

Tell me about the display.

Could it be that VARA is running but you just can't see the
graphic?

Look at the VARA.ini file in the VARA directory and see that
values are
in the Position section. The listing is Top Position = (value)
and Left
Postion = (value) The numbers are indicating the number of
pixels from
the top left corner of the screen to the top left corner of
the VARA
graphic display. If the value shown is larger than the pixel
size of
your display, the graphic won't be visible, it will be "off
screen".

(In Windows 10, click the Start icon and type Display, then
look for the
resolution setting. You should be using the recommended
setting. The
VARA Position settings should be about half of the Windows
numbers to be
visable on the screen.)

The top left corner of your display is 0,0. You can edit this
file with
your text editor (note pad). Shut down RMS Express and the
VARA modem
before editing the file. Put a number like 20 in both position
values
and save the file. Restart VARA and RMS Express and see if the
position
of the graphic remains on the screen.

Also, does RMS Express start the VARA modem itself, or do you
have to
start it manually? I've read that if you start it manually,
you should
start VARA modem first.

Just a thought. This may not be the problem at all, but it's
worth checking.
