Re: Free trial mode despite registration

Lee;

If you haven't already done so (as others have recommended), copy and paste the call-sign and Registration Key from the email to the corresponding fields on the VARA Setup screen.

You possibly have a corrupted VARA.ini file, with garbage characters in the Registration Key record. Pasting in the Registration code from your registration email should fix that.

You definitely can have registered VARA HF / VARA FM (with the same license key) on multiple computers, so previously having it installed on another computer shouldn't make any difference.

Is the call-sign you have entered in the "Settings -> VARA Setup" window -exactly- the call you submitted for the VARA registration?

Yes, it's still on Gmail. This isn't the first time I've received the pop-up about free trial mode. The previous time I went back to the original email and copy/pasted it from there.?

Mark,

Negative - no change to my call sign.

?

If I restart VARA and monitor the VARA port in the G8BPQ software I get this:

?

01:07:16R ENCRYPTION DISABLED<cr> Port=7

01:07:21R REGISTERED K5DAT-7 K5DAT-1 K5DAT-11 K5DAT<cr> Port=7

I was seeing the above, however, before I got the pop-up about being in free trial mode. I'm not sure if "registered" in the context of the message above means it's a registered copy of VARA or if it means something else. When I originally purchased VARA I installed it on a different computer, then later moved it to the current one - not sure if that made any difference.

Lee;

Did you change your call sign after you registered VARA? If yes, you'll need to pay a $10 fee to update the VARA key to use the new call.

I have found that you have to cut and paste it into the box to make it work!

Hello,

?

My VARA HF application popped up a message saying it was running in free trial mode, and I had to click the button to extend. I purchased a license last year, and the key is entered in the setup. There are no errors associated with the key, i.e. there's nothing indicating the key is not valid. How do I get the application out of free trial mode? I'm on version 4.8.6.

And if the operators are outside the border, good luck getting another country's agencies to chase them down.

We have monitors but the problem remains no way of identifying them formally.

Unless you are right there next to their rig and can cite their license plate and even then, good luck.

I've heard people talking on 28.115 and I'm pretty sure they were driving down I-10 because they were talking about a specific exit which was on I-10.

They can be located if someone is proficient at foxhunting. Get as much info as you can on them including recording the traffic.

Probably truck drivers, they think they allowed to talk there. Check with the ARRL, I not sure but I think they have a group that looks into that sort of stuff.?

Re: 10 Meter QRG

Report to the ARRL Volunteer Monitoring Program. I heard Riley Hollingsworth K4ZDH speak less than a week ago. He runs the program and they are the real deal. Reporting interference with the VarAC standard frequency might get some attention. He reported they refer cases to the FCC and those cases get real priority at the FCC. So nothing may end up coming of the effort, but it will take you only a little time to submit a report.

See? for more?information.

  • To report clear violations of FCC Part 97, particularly instances of unlicensed operation, repeated deliberate interference, and operation outside of a licensee¡¯s authorized frequencies, send the report via email to Riley Hollingsworth (K4ZDH), ARRL Volunteer Monitor Administrator, at?.

Important:?include the following information in your report¡

    - Frequency (MHz) of incident:

    - Time of incident (UTC):
    - Date of incident:
    - Call sign(s) of station(s) being reported:
?? - If a repeater, call sign of repeater involved:
    - Description of alleged incident being reported:
    - Your full name (person submitting report)
    - Your call sign:

    - Your email address:
    - Your phone number:

All reports will be acknowledged, reviewed,?and the person submitting the report will receive a response as quickly as possible.

How difficult of a troup movement would it be to change the slots for 10 meters? Yes we are legal and they are not. But the bootleg stuff isn't going away. And with 10 meters being in really good shape right now, the QRM is likely to get worse.

When I was stationed in the West Indies (VP2EHF), the ¡°uno sero cinco¡± ¡°channel¡± was always in use by the narcotrafficantres. We captured a couple of high-speed boats equipped with Icom marine radios set to 28.105 which we had monitored all the way northwards from South America up to the Anagada Straights. About the time I left for home in 1995 many of the drug runners had installed voice encryption ¡ª both digital and analog scramblers. Those didn¡¯t help them much either.

I am unable to find ANY Vara FM nodes in the state of Maine, let alone my grid square FN57ti.

I just licensed my VARA FM without actually trying it first... smart huh? Vara FM says there aren't ANY nodes within 185 miles of my grid square.

I concated VARA and it was suggested to me to post here and ask if anyone knows of any I am not aware of. I can't use HF as I am only a Technician license, and I don't have HF equipment at this time.

Thank you all in advance for your guidance.

I got into Meshtastic too, only to find out that in rural America there isn't much going on with that (or AREDN for that matter), but I guess that just means I need to build better antennas!
