Re: Winlink Vara HF FT991A impossible to contact gateway - help?
Hi Lee, thanks for your reply. Yes indeed, with the FT DX10 I am using Data-U mode in Winlink-Vara HF. The CAT switches the frequency, to 1.5 kHz below the center frequency. Apparently no issue with

Had my first Vara FM successful transmission this morning. Did it via FM P2P as there is no local igate and other Vara FM ham¡¯s QTH is too far and too hilly via simplex ( he came closer to me). We

Winlink Vara HF FT991A impossible to contact gateway - help?
I have a Win11 laptop, Winlink Vara HF working fine with a Yaesu FT DX10 via the inboard soundcard. I recently bought a new FT991A for use in my sailing boat. I could configure it also for Vara HF

Why would a notch filter cause BUSY?
A user recently posted his "BUSY" light being illuminated all the time preventing his transmission. He showed his waterfall and I asked why he had a notch filter in the middle of his pass band. When

Re: 30 Meters APRS-over-VARA NVIS
I¡¯m assuming that the Colo based KD0LEG-10 is still functioning as a digipeater. He was doing so in the past. Just confirmed the above. Sent: Wednesday, January 29, 2025 11:45 AM To: Stephen Smith

30 Meters APRS-over-VARA NVIS
I have been monitoring/igating 40-meters APRS-over-VARA for about two weeks now. [The WA8LMF 40-meters APRS-over-VARA igate/mapping webserver is now monitoring 7.083.5 USB full-time 24/7/365 .] Most

Re: VARA-HF Decoder SWL?
This would not be practical, since nearly all uses of VARA use a two-way hand-shaking ARQ type of operation. The only receive-only modes that an SWL could use are APRS, or the monitor mode of VarAC

VARA-HF Decoder SWL?
Hello everyone, does anyone here use the VARA-HF Decoder (https://rosmodem.wordpress.com/) as SWL? What settings do you have to make just for the receiver? Thanks and 73 Josef DE3JGA

Re: I am at a loss
You are an absolute life saver. I was pulling my hair out. But dropping the mic gain down to 2 and like you said, tx drive way way low .. did the trick. Thank you a million times over! Matt 73 / de

Re: I am at a loss
I have mine set at default which I think is 5. I don't think I ever thought to change the mic gain, but it might help to reduce it on your station. 73 John Denison KD5YOU

Out of curiosity what do you keep your mic gain at with the 2980?

Re: I am at a loss
Since you are using a Yaesu FT-2980, you might be driving it with too much audio into the microphone jack. When I had my FT-2980 in my go kit, I had a Signalink USB, but I had to keep the TX volume

Yeah, never mind the dummy load comment. That is for at home. Your distance was fine.

Re: I am at a loss
I use a dummy load rather than an antenna on my client radio to periodically test my gateway. I use an rtl-Sdr to set deviation on the gateway, not auto tune. David, KE7RGP
