Vara HF - adjusting ALC on FT-891
I know this must be very obvious, but I cannot find the answer.? I have my FT-891 setup through a digirig to Winlink Express running Vara HF.
?
When I press the Tune in Vara, the ALC is very high.? How do I reduce the ALC on the FT-891???
?
I have tried the RF control, and that does nothing.? in the FT-891 io group it says in USB mode (I am using USB-digital) to reduce the mic gain.? That is no help either.

Gateway question about using a single laptop / RMS Trimode / FT-991A / VARA HF.? [As a reminder, the FT-991A has built-in sound card, rig control, and two antenna ports, HF & VHF]
Can I configure RMS Trimode to scan an 80m frequency and a VHF (FM) frequency using VARA HF?? Or would VARA FM be required for the VHF (FM) frequency.

If you want to max out using signal link on VARA FM (highest speeds) / max band width make sure you have latest Signalink unit with surface mount 4Kc audio filters versus the old red xformers of previous older units or can use thru hole ETAL P-3356 audio transformers
with same BW of surface mount Bournes units 200Hz - 4kHz.? Later SMT Signalinks I understand have other incorporated noise mods to enhance as well.

Any radio that uses the microphone connection for VARA will not do WIDE. ? I use the Repeater Builder dedicated interface on the Alinco, plugs into the 9 pin D-Sub on the back.? Program the channel for data (packet) mode.
A question for the group before I purchase the above mentioned 2 mtr radio for VARAFm. is there any dual band uhf/vhf radio's that give the same performance? on both bands using VARAFM ?? I know the?Alinco DR-135T MkIII is a legion in VARAFM but it would also be buying a almost 15year old tech at a close to newer dual band price that could do the same thing on either band.. Any thoughts would be appreciated..

I've used Yaesu FTM-300DR and FTM-6000 with good results. Actually my old Icom IC-2720 which is on my VARA 2m gateway works just fine at 25210 bps, so any dual band with 9600 baud support should work good.

Hello Mark, As it turns out the USB port on my PC is bad and the VARA log shows no contact with the sound card. It works fine on another PC.? So at least I know that my settings are correct. Thank you to all that responded. 73? NB5C
After the holiday, you may find a clue to the difference between the computers by examining the "varafm.log" text files that are in the same folder as the installed VARA FM software.?
?
Also, compare the "varafm.ini" configuration files for each installation.

Is this just one day's attempts? Currently the conditions for 80 meters isn't all that great for day or night. Did you try any other bands?

I see that you have the digirig installed, but I didn't see if it was selected in VARA. Also, there are different versions of digirigs.? If you can't get the volumes right, you may have to modify it (instruction on digirig site).? It has a set of pads that can be bridged or cut depending on what you need, or you can order one specific for your rig.

Digirig Lite to ICOM 229H Microphone Cable
I just finished testing this cabling.
It worked for Winlink Tuesday and wednesday
I adjusted system settings for the USB Microphone
up from 50% to 75% to get FM VU meter up to about 1 o'clock.

Your RX audio looks a little bit high to me on VU meter try lowering it a bit see if it helps.

Until I decided to check if VARA HF works. In the past it takes a while sometimes half an hour to process an email on different Gateways.

I notice no matter what I do it seems not to connect. Will attach a video on the issue at hand.
?
Using a Yaesu FT-857d w/ an LDG YT-100 Auto Tuner and using a DIGIRIG Radio sound card.
