The VARA-FM Modem works and I can connect and send and
receive messages through WinLink running a VARA-FM WinLink
session. The incoming audio from the remote WinLink gateway
drives the audio into the Red area of the VU meter but the
program still decodes the incoming tones without a problem.

Are you talking about the audio level when an actual signal is
being received, or are you referring to the unsquelched white
noise between transmissions???? Normally the no-signal white noise
will produce a higher rerading oin the VU meter than actual
incoming signals.? This is not a concern -- as long as the VU
level during actual signals reads lower. ??
This will particularly be the case if you are using the DigiRig
"9600 Baud" cable which taps the wide-band discriminator audio pin
of the radio data port.?
