Something has changed since your first attempt.?

Possibly a Windows update has "stepped" on your sound control-panel settings. Make sure you have "Enhancements" ?unchecked/disabled, on the "Playback" tab of your transmit sound device, on the Windows sound control-panel, and look for any other sound settings that mey have changed since you had the system working before.

Check again, with a monitor radio, that you're transmitting audio bursts at increasing levels through to the ?end of the VARA FM "Auto Tune" sequence. On the VARA FM window, confirm that the needle on the 'VU' meter is between the 12:00 and 1:00 position when you're receiving noise, with the squelch open. This receive signal level is affected by both the "Recording" level on your Windows sound control-panel and the volume setting on the radio.?

Since your DR-185 doesn't provide the wide audio bandwidth and flat audio-frequency response necessary for effective VARA FM WIDE linke, we see more reliable operation if you set the VARA FM modem to always operate in NARROW mode. You'll still be able make solid connections with gateway stations that are configured to operate in WIDE mode... they'll automatically to NARROW mode during the negotiation phase at the beginning of the data communications session.
