if the radio is off, or not connected and he re-installed the SW. how would RFI be the issue?

Something has changed on ypur antenna system possibly. I had this happen to me, a rodent/bird/animal damaged my feedline outside and water was causing RF in my shack, locking up the computer/transmitter.? Check SWR and try low power to see if the issue changes. Let us know what you find.
