Hope and resilience (and art!) in a flooded mountain town

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

So good to spend time with many of you all today. I wanted to pass along a story that really moved me today. It¡¯s about mutual aid, resilience, and the deep tradition of ballads in Marshall NC¡ªone of many artistic traditions that build community bonds in the wake of hardship. ?(I also really loved the PPE fashion show at the end!)

My friend Sarah Rooker (who many of you may know as director of the Flow of History and director of the Norwich Historical Society) shared this with me today.? She has a brother who lives in Marshall and is part of recovery efforts (and has also worked on recording local ballads). She reached out to me because she knows my connection to WNC but mostly in order to connect him with folks at Montpelier Alive and the Montpelier Commission on Recovery and Resilience--a FEMA person had mentioned business district recovery efforts in Montpelier to him as a model.

?

Anyway, thought you might enjoy it. All best,
