I suspect very expensive for the hobbyist since this stuff goes for collector prices now.

With good proper blades, it’s down to the skill of the operator. This latter part because it takes skill to bring the project to the blade essentially free hand. As opposed to most machining ops.?

I have one that came with my DB200. I have only set the saw up once to see if it was complete and my first impression is that it would require considerable patience to use for much. If there was no other option I think you could use it for small projects but I'm not sure if you would save much time over a hand saw. I have a woodworking bandsaw and a small metal bandsaw so I suspect my Unimat scroll saw will never get used.

Andrew, I'm with you. I have had my DB200 for quite some time.? Shortly after I acquired it, I set up the scroll saw. It took awhile, but I never used it. For small jobs, I use a hand coping saw.

I do use the table saw attachment frequently. Easy to set up. Through the years I purchased many 3 1/2 inch blades and made arbors for them. Works very well.

Hi Gang:

While I don't have the scroll saw, I do have the circular saw. One feature both have is speed control. I did have a AMT scroll saw and found its cycle too fast. I tried a router speed control, but it just lost power too quickly. I had a similar result with my Harbor Freight table saw. But with the UNIMAT table saw I can change belts and cut plastic without it melting on to the blade. Also I think slower speed on the scroll saw would allow more accurate cutting.

Thank you,Carl!
I agree with your speed control assessment. High speed is not necessary and sometimes detrimental to accuracy.

If you were to a scroll saw would be pretty vital I’d say. The great benefit over a coping or fret saw would be the guaranteed verticality (if there is such a word).
?
What a lot of inserting the blade into a new spot though ! ?That could try the patience…

Hi Peter:

I built a die set with 40 keystone shaped punches. The die set, die block, and stripper plate all had holes to match. I had to break and re-weld the band saw blade for each hole. (120x) Half way through as each weld shorten the blade I had to scab in more blade to make it fit over the band saw wheels.

I got the job done.

Hello Carl.
I am trying to visualize what you mean by keystone shape punches. I know what a die set is and how it functions. I have built does well. I just need a little help with shape of keystone. Most of my career was in plastic mold making and associated plastic mold design.?

Hi Dick:

I last worked as a die maker 50 years ago, so my memories of that die is limited to breaking the band saw blade over and over. Suffice it to say just drilling a round hole was too large for the die set, and wouldn't have worked for the stripper. I think the openings were in a circle, so think of a band cut into segments with a small space between each. So a bit like a fat explanation mark (!).

Then there was the shuffle die for the grill on an electric heater. It took 4 cycles to punch the holes while the part was shuffled side to side and front to back. And since the hole count was 20? top to bottom and 37 side to side the die set had to "PULL" one column of punches on two cycles. They could have saved a bundle if they had changed the count to 38!
