Question for you guys that are tech savvy

John, these are what I bought:?? The way I'm planning on doing this is a power controller for each motor. The 150 in the part number means it has a 150watt power rating, and the 24 means it puts out 24 volts DC.?

I bought these speed controllers:?? They'll control 12-60 volt DC motors up to 10 amps. Got them because I wanted them a bit over-rated for the supplies I'm using. Also, they will fit in the boxes I bought. They're not perfect for what I want, but they were cheap!?

I wanted individual power supplies, where some other folks wanted a single power supply to run more than one motor. If you wanted to run two of the 150watt motors, you'd need at least a 300watt power supply, maybe more.?

HTH!

You could always query the vendor to be extra sure.? But his drive belt page looks pretty clear to me.? He has a section for the DB/SL which would suggest they all use the same belts.? And another section for the Unimat 3.? Here is his belt ordering page:

And the ones from Unimat-Vintage-Lathe don't seem to be a standard O-Ring anyway but a purpose designed belt that happens to look just like an O-Ring.

I consider these to be top quality belts.

I used to design instrumentation for deep ocean applications and used many O-Rings for sealing purposes.? There are many materials and "durometers" (hardness) and there are plenty that would not be suitable for a Unimat drive belt.? So, if you just buy some O-Ring, it might or might not be suitable.

I don't see any point in fitting large motors, motors that don't suit variable speed, motors that have far more power than is needed, motors that simply don't fit. Many of us have gone down the route of fitting a 24 V DC motor of 100 to 150 Watts, using cheaply available 24 V power supplies and any of a wide range of speed controllers, all readily available on Ebay and other markets and easy to fit and use.

Why spend weeks debating what to do? We know what to do. It could have been all built and working in the time it's taken to get nowhere.

It's certainly simple, it works very well, and is a cheap solution.

I have some of Dougs belts and also some from Toms Tool Store. Both are great quality. I bought the O ring first and experimented with each one, All worked great. I was hoping the the O rings would slip a bit if needed to act as a safety feature, I would rather have them slip then break something else. So far no slippage and they are easy to put on and remove. I have several Unimats and since I converted two of them to the 24vdc motors years ago, I rarely change belts. I also remove the belts when not using the lathes. I have inclosed a photo of the earlier belts that Unimat used.

The FDA designation means that it can be used in manufacturing places where food or drugs are processed because the Buna-n material is safe and does not leach any chemicals.

Ok, I am on a learning curve right now. It looks like the color is important, the industry uses the color of the O ring as a code to tell what it is made of. I got lucky years ago when I ordered the white ones. Here is a link to what the colors mean.

And here is data on the white ones that I have

If you do a web search of -334 or -339 Oring 70 Duro White FDA NBR you will find many sources for them.
Here is a data link for the black ones

Guys, there is no, none, nada, zero difference between white, red, black buna-n o-rings.?

Just buy what you find when you need it.?

The color is just decorative.

I inclosed a O ring Standard chart that you can down load. I checked the Jet Gasket company's web site and I am not seeing the white O rings, they do still sell the black ones and they are $3.68 for 20 of them.

I found two of the packages, one is " -339? Oring 70 DURO WHITE FDA NBR" and the other is " -334 ORING 70 DURO WHITE FDA NBR". These are a standard size 3/16" cross section O rings. The company name on the packages packages that I have is Jet Gasket & Seal. I got white at the time, they also come in black and red. The important data is the size -334 and -339 , and Duro 70. I got two packages of 5 and I am still using the original one.

Measure with a string around your pulling and buy the nearest size down.
