Does the Unimat DB200 have Imperial threads or Metric

I’m not sure if the DB200 has metric or imperial threads. I think it is imperial but am not sure. I measured the lead screw O.D. and it measures .312” which indicates it is imperial. I don’t have a thread micrometer.

Hello Dick:

All the sketches are done in 2D and are parametric. It quickly gives you the answers to how big a part needs to be, etc. Parametric means you can say the part is twice as wide as it is tall, or all the side are equal. You draw, add dimensions and the sketch changes to match the dimensions. Once all the parts fit together you can make dimensioned drawings to work from.

Also the program is free to use. If you want or need private access files they charge a monthly fee. And you can access your models anywhere.

I used it to design my dividing head, it was a great aid.

Carl.

Re: IPad for CAD?

Ooh, the nostalgia. I used to love Autosketch 2.1…. Wonderfully simple, straightforward and effective.

Re: IPad for CAD?

I'm sure that Onshape may be good - BUT, OP says he's looking for 2D CAD. Sometimes that is more than enough.
?
I'm still using my copy of AutoSketch 9.0 which I purchased somewhere back in 2007 or so. And that was based on
QuickCAD which AutoDesk purchased and repackaged. It's a very good program because it does the most important
thing - It let's you do what you want and otherwise, stays out of your way. 3D is great, IF you need it!

Re: IPad for CAD?

Onshape has a free personal subscription. With the free version your files are public for anyone to use, but you get a full 3-D CAD tool with no personal hardware costs (can be used with an ipad).

Re: IPad for CAD?

This one looks interesting. Interesting enough that I'm considering their desktop version realCADD.

Re: IPad for CAD?

I am not so much interested in solids. All I need at this point in my life is life is simple 2D. I don’t have any CNC machines anymore. All I use is my Unimat DB200. I have down sized to a simple hobby and am content with that.

Hi Gang:

I like OnShape. It is similar to Solid Works that I was trained on. Plus it doesn't take up any memory space on your device.

I have a full set of WW collets with my Unimat DB200. This would also transfer directly to the Sherline if I do choose to go that way.

Basic Sherline is marginally more expensive than U3 in like new condition (to make fair comparison), but Sherline has better motor and drive train already.
Once you start adding accessories U3 will cost you more.
An underappreciated feature of Sherline is Morse Taper in both head and tailstock, which adds world of possibilities, such as inexpensive third party CR collet holder, etc.
