Re: How to contact Group Owner?
Before the Yahoo group shut down and before switching to groups.io, I downloaded all of the posts and pictures in case the group did not change over. But a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. Do I still have it all, maybe? |
Re: New video on Youtube, "Disassembling the Unimat DL mini lathe"
This will be fun to follow. I'd recommend buying some soft metal drift rods and a socket set, and cleaning as much gunk from shafts before driving them thru a casting though. I was cringing when he mentioned "the ends of this shaft and mushroomed or burred making it difficult to drive it off " --- and then kept tapping!! I am working a deal whereby I may actually get a Unimat SL, which would be cool as heck, but that's going to take some time, too. At least then, I'd have real reason to be a member of this group. I joined because a) I have wanted a Unimat for a long time, and b) because techniques that work on a small lathe will work on just about any lathe. The first lathe I actually laid my hands on after a 1 semester class in high school, long ago, was a Harbor Freight 7x10. Compared to the Unimats, they're a giant, but compared to the sorts of lathes you find in a real machine shop, they're still tiny. Since I got that 7x lathe, I've also acquired a few others. I got an Atlas TH42 (10x24) lathe in good working order, and a South Bend Heavy 10L restoration project that led a hard life, and that I'm working on fixing. And my brother bought me a Smithy CB-1220XL 3-in-1 machine that I'm in the middle of getting back in running order. I also started another class in machining. Over 6 years ago. Not quite finished, but I've only been going part time for most of that time. The classroom lathes make my 10L look like a small lathe, and it weighs over 1000 pounds.? Why do I need a 5th lathe? It's a sickness! ;) Somewhere here I have a photo of a 9mm Lugar barrel that Mert Baker made on his Unimat. I want to be able to do stuff like that! While you can use the same techniques on a bigger lathe, it's sometimes harder to do stuff on a small lathe. You have to take shallower cuts, and slower feeds, so things take more time. The bigger lathes will let you brute force it, where the smaller ones take finesse.? Hi! My name is Bill, and I'm a Toolohaulic! Bill in OKC |

Re: How to contact Group Owner?
I tried to download a backup of data, but I still don't think it has sent me a link and it has been more then 24 hours.? I have no idea what this backup looks like in terms of readable- by- human beings data.? I was running a backup of my stitching group, but one of my co-owners deleted my backup entity and I haven't restored it, but I had groups io delivering the messages to a back up email address, and I just kept them for archival purposes - I should restore that function.
Does anyone want to volunteer to go through the photos and download to the cloud? What is Marcus' status?? Has anyone been in touch with him?? I don't remember who was the original owner(s) of the Yahoo Group, but I think only an owner could have transferred a group. xpylonracer@ Using 130 MB for attachments storage ?

Re: How to contact Group Owner?
Another hopeful new member has contacted me today, so I think that makes four who are being shut out, but they haven't given up. If it is a quick process, could they be "approved" while the owner problems get sorted?
I think we should have a solution to the problem soon, so can I urge them, and anyone else in the same frustrating position to hang on. Yes, it does seem we need a number of owners to ensure continuity, and maybe a few spare moderators ready to step in and keep the numbers up. Due to current health problems I cannot volunteer. Maybe in a while when treatment has finished. |
