Re: Unimat DB/SL VS Unimat3?
I have to say unimat 3 as I have had mine since new and find it most versatile, while not needing it for milling and drilling operations as I have a different machine for that, but for what it can do

Re: Vice for my Unimat DB
This is a significantly different vice to mine. Mine is very plain with no tapped holes in it, and the clamping is different - there is no removable pin. However the jaws are plain - no recess for

Re: Unimat DB/SL VS Unimat3?
Also my SL was more or less free - it circulated around over the years and when it was given back to me (note - given) it had more accessories than when I first owned it. I dimly recall that

I don't agree. I used my SL to produce hundreds of small parts for Ferrari earning many ?1000s in the process. It gave me all the facilities I needed. They would be more difficult to produce on the

I have the 1" one but I mainly use it for holding jobs on the bench. It is very accurate in terms of the flatness, parallelism and slack in the jaws, but it is not designed to be bolted down. I did

Re: Vice for my Unimat DB
They are called precision screwless vises. Often used for surface grinding operations. Here is one that is 1 inch in size. 2 inch is just a few dollars more.

Which one's better depends entirely on your goal. If you need a lathe of this size and cost to do actual work, skip Unimat and go straight to Sherline. If you want to play with a cool little retro
