We have talked a lot about handwheels and Unimat leadscrew conversions.? Here is one that I got from someone's collection.? It belonged to Charlie Brommer, who made model train parts as CHB.? This has been made into inch, using what looks like 1/4-20.? There is a tapped steel block attached to the side of the carriage, and one on the crosslide.? I imagine the idea was that it might be reconverted at some time.? Otherwise you would need to try 5/16-20, which is unusual.
?
After looking at all of this, my conclusion is that if you want inch, get a Sherline if you can at all afford it.? Check the site each month for discounts.? Sherline heads come in threaded or collet.? The vertical column is superior to the Unimat.
