As a die-hard cheapskate I followed the example of a guy on the UK tv show ¡®The Repair Shop¡¯ and wear multiple sets of glasses when I need better close up vision¡ you are just adding diopters after all.

I have glasses for ¡®normal¡¯ vision and ¡®reading¡¯, and using them together is a good ¡®starter¡¯ combination.

Cheap plastic glasses are readily available from pound shops and the like. A couple of ¡®strong¡¯ ones will give really close-up vision for soldering etc.

Probably nowhere near as good as the professional brand discussed above, but maybe a workable alternative, a fraction of the price, easily stored, and readily replaced or ¡®upgraded¡¯.
