Aren't the guides 12mm? going down to 8mm will turn it into a spaghetti lathe...

Wish I'd seen these before I cut down the 8mm linear guide rod I used to replace the rails on my carriage...? But I do still have one Unimat that hasn't gotten the new rails yet. So all is not lost!?
