New UIV32 + PMSAT 8.0 install

K Wesolowski KD7DFV

I have an issue.

Installing a new setup of UIV32 + PMSAT 8.0 on a new laptop.
Laptop is a Dell XPS15 9500 running Win 10 Pro, plenty of memory & horsepower

I still have my registration for UI-View and it appears to work just fine.

The problem is just with the maps.
Since there isn't a website anymore, am I just stuck with a program that no longer functions?

BTW - UIV32 seems to load & operate the maps in the database correctly & efficiently.

Involves PM v9 so I'm not sure if registry workaround works with v8.
Precision Mapping v9 copies and ISOs still float around out there.Shame they don't support anymore, but still very usable for a variety of needs.

Precision Mapping 8.0? has been "abandon-ware" for nearly a decade now!?? There is now no way to activate or use PMap 8.0 either stand-alone or as a component of UIview.???? However, UIview definitely still functions. You can use a wide variety of static (fixed-view non-zooming) maps from various sources.?? And Precision Mapping 9.0 can still work with UIview.

The registration server "RegisterMyApp.com" was required to activate all versions of Precision Mapping. ? ? It spit out the "magic number" required to unlock and activate Precision Mapping. This number was based on the version number of Precision Mapping, and a hash of the version/serial number of your copy of Windows & the serial number of your hard disk.? I.e. it locked an installed Precision Mapping to a particular machine and hard disk.

IMPORTANT!? Replacing your hard disk with a new bigger one, or replacing a conventional mechanical disk with an SSD, will "break" this activation.

Over time, as newer versions of Precision Mapping were released, activation support for older versions were gradually discontinued.

-- In Nov 2006, Precision Mapping 8.0 was released

-- In May 2009, Precision Mapping 8.1 was released.

--? In February 2013, the last & final version 9.0 of Precision Mapping was released, along with a new PMap Server 9.0.

--? In April 2014, Precision Mapping 9.0 was abruptly discontinued. At this time the activation support for Ver 8.0/8.1 was discontinued. However activation support for Ver 9.0 continued for 6 more years.

--? In March 2020, the activation server was completely shut down, orphaning ALL versions of Precision Mapping.

IMPORTANT! ? Unlike earlier versions, Precision Mapping 9.0 WILL work with UIview and the PMap Server 9.0 _WITHOUT_ being activated.??? However, you can't run the stand-alone Precision Mapping 9.0.? (Which DOES require the no-longer-possible activation code.)

Thank you for that information Stephen!

Like I said - I can still use the maps in UIView; I can move them around & zoom in & out. I cannot dynamically zoom them, if that what you mean. I have to turn on alternate mouse functions and then <left Click & drag>

I guess fussing with "things" as hams naturally do, is not always a good thing!

Fall is here and hopefully an end to this nightmare is closer to an end as well.

Regards,

So - I am to add the value ["="] .. an equal sign in quotations?

I have a registry string that is 1269 & not 1309. I have it on both machines, so I am confident that the 1269 reflects PMSAT 8.0

On my Inspiron 660 I have a value of EEEJELEMEV
On my XPS 15 I have no data in the field

Hopefully this works!

OR -
Would it be to create the file using CLSID1269P instead?
