UK site cleared nodes overlay

Roger Barker <[email protected]

I've uploaded an overlay showing all UK site cleared packet nodes to the
files area. It's nodespos.zip in the Overlays folder. It's based on
G8SFR's DCC bulletins, so it's as accurate as you can get.

(For those not in the UK - We aren't allowed to set up remote nodes
without getting a special licence and "site clearance" - which means
they've been approved by our regulatory authority. We are allowed to set
up nodes at our home locations, but there are restrictions on what
frequencies we can use for unattended operation. For any unattended
operation from home, we have to inform the authorities that we're doing
it, and provide information on close down procedures. Is it like this in
other countries??)

Hi Roger

Nice overlay I wonder if only just some of them nodes were to add a digi
port on 144.800 we could have a constant national network over night.

I have asked our local packet group maxpak if they could accomodate a
144.800 port for the midlands. Perhaps if everybody asked there local groups
if they could just add a port it would certainly be a step in the right
direction for us.

Hi Andy,

A nice idea BUT how do you run two co-sited nodes on frequencies that are a
matter of a few 12.5Khz channels apart without serious de-sense problems? If
it can be done with the use of cavities the size of the Albert Hall I would
be interested to know.

Seasonal greetings

Hi Geoff

I appreciate that it can't be done everywhere, just where possible could be
very helpfull.

Andy.

Hi all,

Some of you may have heard of the mic-e system, this is one possible way of
getting your local repeater group to "develop their repeater".

Quite simply, the mic-e (microphone encoder) is a box that goes between
your mic and radio. Attached to that box is a GPS. As you're driving along
your packets get fed to the mic-e and get transmitted on the repeater input,
normally when you de-key. The repeater filters out the packet "baaaaaarp" so
that it doesn't get put out on the output. The filtered "baaarp" is sent out
on 144.8. No-one on the repeater knows anything about it!!!

So, for those of you who want to run a 2m rig in the car and APRS on 144.8
this is a possible solution. It's also get some well placed digi's up.

Of course the TH-D7 and TM-D700 can do this already, without the mic-e box.
For those of you that don't subscribe, the US APRSIG has gone wild with info
about the new Kenwood radio, it's been released there.

It's a good idea!

I'll ask WRG (Wakefield Repeater Group) who run the GB7WRG BBS if it might
be possible.

Cheers - Dave (G0DJA)

Hi Geoff

very helpfull.

Andy.
For instance the local BBS and packet group run the 70cm and 23cm voice
repeaters, so it *may* be possible, I guess, to set something up at one or
other of those spots.

However, I can almost hear the Treasurer asking where the funds are going to
come from HI!

It's worth asking anyway, as many groups have linking systems on 70cm/23cm
and those sites may be able to support a WIDE digipeater......

Cheers de Dave (G0DJA)
