UI-Path FIXED: Illegal Function Call
Ev Tupis (W2EV)
In a flash of brilliance, Andy noted:
Have you in Setup -> Station setup defined your latitude and lonitudeThis was exactly the problem. Why? Because I'm experimenting with meteor scatter using WinAPRS and now UI-View. I've written two articles on the method for US magazines, and seen decent success. The only issue that comes up is that, with the exception of APRSdos, there is no "meteor mode" to the software, so I set WinAPRS in RX-Only mode, and hand-configure the TNC for the transmit side. The same "problem" exists in UI-View, so I attempted to use it in the same mode (RX-only, and manually setting TNC for TX parameters). As such, I didn't input my lat/lon. Good catch, Andy! (and maybe a good "error trap" to consider including for UI-Path, too?). Your program is just what is needed for PropNET (see link below). Now that I've got it funcioning, I'm going to play a bit. Thanks for not giving up on me. :o) Warmly, Ev, W2EV -- PropNET: A digital wireless data network designed to plot band openings in near real-time. Intreagued? |

I'll post the data this evening, when I can find the relevant entry. I think it is only reported as Best DX if the distance to the station is greater than your existing best. It does not unconditionally report beacons heard this way as the best. 73 Laurie (G6ISY) |

Is there a simple, low-cost answer to this wel in a nutshell yes !!Options of purchasing additional PCMCIA com ports (or similar) are notHi, well i do anyway and i went and bought a usb to serial convertor from maplins for 26 i also got one from pc world for 20 (should have been 70 but there was no win95 driver and the box was tatty) but your laptop must have usb ports if you go down that road. i have run with the gps-tnc-radio since may 99 up till oct 99 when i got the usb convertors and have to say that running ui-view mobile is far better than just sending a beacon and not seeing others aswell. it's gonna be great creeping up on Mike G1ZRN i nearly did it last thursday mike when we were both in near bloxwich. Have you in Setup -> Station setup defined your latitude and lonitude co-ordinates. UI-Path requires this to work. As mentioned in the personal e-mail if this does not cure it please could you send me your uiview.ini file. 73 - Andy, G7OCW ----- Original Message -----

Best DX bug
Roger,
A few times recently I have noticed that the station that I am reporting as my best dx, I have in fact heard via a digipeater. I have only noticed it with two stations so far (one a PA0xxx and the other an FA1xxx) but in both cases the stations had addressed their position beacons to themselves. e.g. FA1XXX>FA1XXX F5KBM-1* ..... 73 Laurie (G6ISY). |

<cboand@...> writes From: cboand@... (Clifford Boand)Although it's not the cause of your problem, you're misunderstanding auto-refresh. If you want stations to build up, i.e. not expire, you need to set "Expire time" to 0 in "Miscellaneous Setup". On APRS IYou need to make sure that UI-View is initialising the TNC. If you're swapping it between APRS and UI-View, that might not be happening. The TNC is initialised when UI-View starts, and when you click "Ok" in "Comms Setup". If you're still using KISS (recommended), you need to make sure that you have clicked the Ka "Easy Setup" button in "KISS Setup". If you haven't, UI-View will be using the wrong commands to put the TNC in KISS mode. Open the Terminal window, everything received appears in there. If you don't see the traffic from the local digi, then there is definitely a set-up problem. If there is some traffic, but nothing appears on the map, then use the Save button on the Terminal window to capture some data and send the file to me. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Thanks for the change in error handling. Now I get a message that simply says "An error has occured in starting UI-Path". We're getting closer :o). Does this help to point in any good direction? Thanks for not giving up on this one. If it works out, there will be a ton of use for your module in the states. stations on my map?
I once had ui-view up and running in KISS mode, using a KPC-3 TNC. All
was well. Since that time, about 3 weeks ago, I haven't been able to get any stations to show up on my map (here in the u.s.). I don't have Auto-Refresh checked (I wanted to let the stations seen build up over a period of time), but my own station is the only one I see. On APRS I can only see one station direct, but it's a WIDE digi, so I get lots of stuff repeated through. Am i doing something wrong here? As I said, it DID work, once...and I don't think I changed anything. Any thoughts? It's REALLY a neat program, and I'd like to continue with it, more as a "chat" program. Cliff WA0JTW EM65ll |

The vast majority of current laptop computers only have one com portThe only other solution that I've seen, is if your Laptop PC has USB ports. Bob (G7PAF) bought a USB extension card that gave him a second COM port. Which worked. HTH de Dave (G0DJA) |
