Re: Some sort of odity type bug
Karl G6ODT
This happened on 2 machines now when using UK5.BMP for some considerableI've had this happen while playing back logfiles. Clicking on the stop button restores the map. Again only noticed it with the UK5 map. 73 Karl G6ODT g6odt@... 24hr Digi 144.800 Relay,Wide,Irth,G6ODT |

v2.16B
Carl
Either I have found a bug or a feature.
The excluded list clears itself everytime you call it up. Is that deliberate? Ive only just realised you can include -5 etc in .wav files - that way you can have a different message for mobile to that for fixed or handportable. Also lends possibilities for voice signalling .. gw0tqm-8 put the kettle on gw0tqm-9 call the aa etc.. :) Carl gw0tqm carl_mail@... gw0tqm@... Guess who's logbook isnt y2k compliant.... |

<g7paf@...> writes Well well wellDon't confuse IP addresses, subnet masks, and ports. IP Address ---------- On a LAN, the IP addresses are conventionally of the format:- 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3 192.168.0.4 Etc... (There are other recommended series that you can use.) Each machine is given a unique address and each machine should be given a domain name. As mentioned previously, creating a file called HOSTS in the WINDOWS directory and putting in it the domain names and IP addresses of local machines is always a good idea. You should also put in an entry for localhost - which provides a means for a client to connect to a server on the same machine. So, a hosts file might look like this:- 127.0.0.1 localhost 192.168.0.1 development 192.168.0.2 kidz 192.168.0.3 voyager 192.168.0.4 packet 192.168.0.5 k6 Subnet Mask ----------- The subnet mask, which in Win95/8 you specify in the LAN adaptor TCP/IP properties should almost always be 255.255.255.0. Port ---- The port used is entirely application dependent. The range of valid port numbers is 1 to 32767, and servers like UI-View will normally use a port number above 1024. A server opens whatever port it is told to use, and listens on that port. A client connecting to a server has to specify the domain name or IP address of the server and the port. If a domain name is specified, Windows resolves it to an IP address by looking in the HOSTS file. UI-View acting as a server defaults to listening on port 1448, but you can change the port in UIVIEW.INI if you really want to. Clients have to connect to the port that the server is listening on. I chose 1448 as the default port for no other reason than because APRS in the UK uses 144.800MHz and so it should be easy to remember. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Boston, UK |

Well well well
guess what ???? i have had some success i can now get all beacons from my packet machine sent to m inet machine here i am typing thins and watching the other stations coming in. for some reason the place i was going wrong (i think) was specifying the ip address on the wrong port. i tried the one that is in the ui-view INI file 1448 and it all came through i also used the sub mask ip address which made a difference (i think) but i am off to bed now as it is 4am and i will play with it tommorow. i will put together a blow by blow account as and when i feel that i have got it right and understand it my self Regards Bob Scaife g7paf@... ax25 g7paf@gb7jem.#19.gbr.eu icq 17945619 |
Time Stamp in Status Text
Ev Tupis (W2EV)
every once in a while, this gets transmitted: Setup, Status Text, either blank it or put 0 for the interval.Fascinating! Thank you for the insight...now for a follow up-question: What is the significance of the "Time Stamp" of 020346? It seems to be hard-coded under Setup|Status Text. And a follow-up question to the follow-up question :o) is how is the time stamp encoded? Curiously yours, Ev, W2EV :o) P.S.- Roger, Andy and all, thank you for helping me to understand. I'm sure that these questions are quite basic to you. Some sort of odity type bug
Andy Pritchard
Hi Roger
This happened on 2 machines now when using UK5.BMP for some considerable length of time the map goes white and just displays the icons. If I swap to other maps bmp/gif they are OK and if I swop back to uk5.bmp it says error in loading bmp or somthing. Closing down UI-View and going back in cures it, not major but I thought I would mention it. 73 - Andy, G7OCW |
Re: TX in RX mode...how to disable?
Carl
The only place I've placed W2EV-2 is in the TNC's MYCALL. How would IAbsolutely - when away from home and wanting a hard copy of all the mobiles scurrying about.... I run my TNC in NONE (i.e. command mode) so using TERMINAL to issue XMITOK OFF does the trick, however, I then realised that even in KISS, unplugging the microphone plug is quite effective too :) Carl gw0tqm carl_mail@... gw0tqm@... |
WXData Uploaded
Karl G6ODT
Hi All,
I've uploaded a simple little program to the Extras directory of one-list. It's called WXData and is a Windows program that you can manually enter WX data and it will generate a file called WX.Dat which UI-View can read to allow you to run a WX station. You might want to create and .XTR to make UI-View start the program at start up. An example would be :- WXData WXDATA.EXE True True This assumes the program is located in the Ui-View directory. if it isn't change line 2 to point to where you have located the program. Another wish......for 2000
"Pauline Moldon" <[email protected]
Hi all,
Well things are looking up. Sometimes my little map of the British Isles is full of stations. Ive seen Roger and beyond. Today ON ? was coming through on several occasions. Other times during the day, I am alone............. G4VQZ (CHI) sometimes swings his beam to me and we have a chat, but try as I may I cannot even get a ping returned from even the closest station heard direct.!!! We went to the Pickets lock Rally last November and bought an ex-PMR radio from SMC. This is a 7 chan crystal radio with 25 watts out. Sounded good at the time, so I ordered up two pairs of crystals. One for 144.8, and the other for my local BBS. I set up a generator etc, and tried it out on RX, but there is not even a change in noise level between chans let alone a tone being heard on the speaker...... My Wish.... I wish something would go right with the radio kit for a change.... Happy new year to all. 73 Pauline G7SPT@GB7ZZZ |

<feek@...> writes From: "Keith Maton" <feek@...>No, as said in a message yesterday, using UI-View as a server, which is what Bob wants to do, is a completely different thing to connecting to AGWPE, local or remote, via TCP/IP. When you connect to AGWPE via TCP/IP, it's just the same as using AGWPE on your own PC, except that the TNCs and radios can be on another PC, and that PC can be on your LAN or on the other side of the world! When you connect to UI-View operating as a server, it's very similar to connecting to APRServe. The client sees the traffic from the server's radios, and the client's traffic can be gated out to RF by the server. Several clients can connect to the server and talk to each other, just as if they were connected to APRServe. You can also connect the server to APRServe and all its clients are then effectively connected to APRServe. AGWPE isn't needed. The reason I'm reluctant to try to provide a blow by blow account of how to do it is that most of the setting up is a case of getting TCP/IP working on the two PCs. That's a Windows configuration thing, it isn't remotely specific to UI-View, and it can be very difficult to explain something like that from long distance, if the person trying to follow the instructions hits problems. Both PCs must have TCP/IP attached to their LAN adaptors, they must have IP addresses assigned to those adaptors, and they need a HOSTS file with correct entries for the host names and IP addresses of the machines on the LAN. Once you've got TCP/IP working between the two PCs, the UI-View bit is very easy. Other than for the INI file entries, all the setting up, for both server and client, is done in "APRS Server Setup". The INI file entries must be made when UI-View isn't running. On the server PC ---------------- 1. You make an entry in IGATE.INI for the callsign being used on the client PC, so its traffic will be gated to RF. E.g. - G4IDE*=TRUE (That's assuming you want to gate the traffic.) 2. You check "Enable local server". On the client PC ---------------- 1. You make an entry in the [APRS_Server] section of UIVIEW.INI for the server PC. E.g. if the server PC is called "packet" - packet=1448 2. You select that as your APRS Server. 3. You don't check "APRServe log on required". 4. You connect to the server by using "Connect To APRS Server". Perhaps someone who has got TCP/IP working on a LAN could try setting up two UI-View systems as server and client, and then report back? It might result in a better explanation than I'm giving! -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Boston, UK |

(I could explain that further, but I think there's an explanation on George's web site as to what the TCP/IP module is for.) So anyone with the latest AGWPE can connect to it using TCP/IP from UI-View without having to register anything. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Boston, UK |
