The linux machines run 24x7, while the Windows machines don't. Hence I deliberately leave the packet gear on a linux machine (it's an APRS digipeater too). But it does mean when I want to run WinAPRS or UI-View to actually view the APRS network, send messages etc, I have to do everything via the Internet. You need to put I (for internet not 1) in the port bit just above where you type you message in. Then it will go out on the net You could try the program WinGate to set-up a proxy on your windows machine to give you internet access from your linux box. 73 - Andy , G7OCW ----- Original Message -----

messages -> Internet
Hamish Moffatt <[email protected]
I've just starting playing with UI-View a day or so ago and it looks
really nice. Much more modern than WinAPRS, and easier to configure. The new 2.1.5 beta looks good. I like the way it can send the position onto the Internet. (At my station, my packet equipment is on a Linux server, so my Windows machines only have Internet for APRS.) Is it possible to send text messages through to the Internet too? As far as I can tell, locally entered text messages are not sent to the internet ever. Cheers Hamish VK3SB -- Hamish Moffatt Mobile: +61 412 011 176 hamish@... Rising Software Australia Pty. Ltd. Hi Dave,
I realise that I may be alone in this, but is there any way that I can backSimpliest way is to stop the logging and restart the proccess ,but if it recreates the log as a blank (no contents) rather than overwritting the existing contents then I think you will have lost the original. 73 Karl G6ODT g6odt@... 24hr Digi 144.800 Relay,Wide,Irth,G6ODT |
Overflow, KISS & KPC3+
Ev Tupis (W2EV)
First, let me say I've no experience with KISS-mode.
UI-View is my first attempt at using it. Upon powering up my KPC3+ all works well for several minutes. Then I get an error window that simply says "Overflow". The KPC3+'s "Con" light is lit and everything appears to be locked up. I exit UI-View and enter HyperTerminal to find that the KPC3+ is sending a steady stream of gibberish. The only thing possible is to power-off the TNC, and start all over again. Am I overlooking something easy? Ev, W2EV ps: I tried going to OneList to see if there was an archive of past messages, but I couldn't fine one. If someone knows of one, I'd appreciate being pointed in its' direction as I'd prefer to solve as many problems as possible without bothering others. |
On being an Idiot!
I realise that I may be alone in this, but is there any way that I can back
out of over writing a log file? At the moment, it seems that once I've accidentally clicked on the wrong button (my excuse is an over sensitive trigger finger - the fact that I'm only 37 and was never in the 2nd WW has nothing to do with it - <G>) then the deed is done and 'OK' is the only option. Even clicking escape doesn't get you out! So, can I make a plea for those of us that get ourselves into corners, that a 'get out of jail free' option of go back one step would help? Thanks - Dave (G0DJA) |

i for one being a mobile station would like to see that for the local repeaters etc etc if i am on 433:500 i could at least know which repeater is local to me by looking at the screen. it can get a bit teidious when they are all propogated through the unproto string of trace's and wide's and relay's i would still love to see a button to turn of the gps input without the need to go into the drop menue's to do it. as i run other navigation software aswellthat uses the gps. but then if i go out and get another usb to serial convertor then i wont need to close the gps as i have 2 of them. anyone tried the usb to rs232 convertor from maplins at 29.99 also any of you mobile's care to share your setting's for beacon rate..mine is every 10 mins or 0.3 miles which ever occures first can be a pain when there are a lot of stations about but works well when only a few about. i noted with intrest Mike (zrn) and his dodgy speedo going down the m1 the other night he was back and forth between juctions owing to all the digi updates that others had been sending. anyways would be nice to see a few more mobiles about. happy holidays Bob -----Original Message-----

Internet connectivity
Hi All and Merry Christmas,
Wonder if anyone else has been able to use the IGATE part of UI-View without getting an APRServer validation number? A local station downloaded V2.1 from one of the web sites, set it up and was asking about connecting to the internet. Anyway, after I told him that he would need a validation number he connected and was able to send and receive messages through the server with the default '-1' in the field! He also reported that the box to put the validation number was greyed out, and he couldn't have altered it even if he'd wanted to..... Anyone any idea why this might have happened please? Thanks - Dave (G0DJA) Happy New Year |

Carl
if you do reply to me give me a few mins to see it and to reply or give me a call on 433:500 i am always on there waiting for a call. This is a good idea - I try and put a rx frequency in my beacon string when mobile. Mind you, I still like listening to 144.8 :)) Carl gw0tqm carl_mail@... gw0tqm@... |
Re: Best wishes all.
Carl
If you sort the Station List so you can easily find the requiredThe only disadvantage is that you get a screen refresh if/when the new map loads. So if you just want to check where someone is you lose the mobile tracks... not the end of the world of course...but.. :) Some option to flash the callsign or beep if it isnt on the current map would do? Talking of wishlists - I think it would be good if uiview could read out -either callsigns within a certain distance, and since there would be fewer of them, read a distance out too. Put the laptop in the seat well and listen for what stations are in the area. Call it a mobile mode- perhaps coupled with a VERY large on screen display of callsign and distance (so a quick glance would do) (or display it in mirror writing, reflect the screen in the windscreen and get a head-up display....) sorry Im being silly now... :) Carl gw0tqm gw0tqm@... |

A small wish for UI-View
Keith Maton
It'd be nice to be able to set a seperate path for objects.
As an example, I was recently transmitting a number of objects that were of interest to anyone driving up and down the A12. Ideally, I'd have liked to have limited their propogation, but they went to my full unproto path. If a seperate path could be configured either globally, or object-specific then that'd be really excellent. Keith -- Keith Maton, G6NHU Hub Captain, Noble Air London Heathrow Hub feek@...
