UI-View32 Invalid Registration

Hello,

I received a registration number, but I receive the message "invalid registration number." I typed my name and call sign exactly as entered for registration.

Re: Delayed long packets sent

This was it...

Some how I over looked this setting, once change from CD - INTERNAL to SOFTWARE everything was grand!

Thank you for everyones time.

Re: Delayed long packets sent

Well... almost a year to the date of resetting, reinstalling the software, the issue is back.

Really very odd.

Saves up all the packets and sends them as one long string at random times.

I can force it to send, but unhooking and re-hooking the mic plug in on my Kenwood TM-231A.

Be nice to figure this out without having to reset and reinstall once again.

Thanks!

Re: server filters

Ahh, nevermind. I found that I could remove them from the map by using the include/exclude list and excluding
by symbol type :No Symbol (/D). The map looks so much better now.. I hadn't thought of that option before and
I've been doing this for 20 years.. Learn something new every day..

Sorry for the slow reply. You probably got it all figured out, but if
not, you might want to change it to...

filter m/200 p/VE2/VA2/VE1/VE9 o/ISS*/PSAT*

That filter would get you everything within 200 km of your location, as
long as you have beaconed your position. It would get you all stations
with a prefix of VE2, VA2, VE1 and VE9. It would also get you any
objects starting with ISS and PSAT.

I ran the filter for a few minutes. I could see PSAT, PSAT2 and ISS.

VE2KZP-DP was out in mid-Atlantic. VE2ZVL-N was in SW England.

Assuming the new computer will have similar organization (same drive letters, same directory names, etc), it's actually quite easy.

1) Shut down UIview on the old machine.

2) Copy the entire UIview folder and it's sub-folders to an external hard disk or flash drive. Be sure the directory organization is preserved.

3) Do a cold-install from the UIview source install file on the new machine .
Specify an install location with a path name identical to the old setup. This creates all the invisible entries in the Windows Registry data base related to UIvew. Do NOT run the new setup after the initial install.

4) Copy the entire contents of the old setup from the external hard disk or flash drive, to the new machine, overwriting dozens of files in the new setup, with your personalized versions from the old machine. This transfers stations-heard lists, objects lists, APRS server log-in settings, user preferences, any updated symbol sets, and most important the file "uireg.bin"
which includes your callsign and registration number to unlock and activate the program. Dismiss any prompts or warnings that you are copying older files over newer versions.

5) If you had separate folders containing any UIview plug-ins or external map collections, copy these from the old machines to identically-named folders on the new machine.

Note 1: The vast majority of UIview settings are contained in the file "uiview32.ini" located in the main UIview folder. The entries contained in this file contain numerous references to the location (drive letter and folder) of UIview components. If the new install is on a different drive letter, or in a new folder name, you will have to open the copied-over version of "uiview32.ini" with a basic ASCII text editor. Then find/replace references to the old drive letter and/or folder, and replace them with t he new location. Save the file and exit.

Note 2: You cannot simply copy the as-built old installation from the old system to a blank folder on the new one. You would miss the entries hidden in the Windows Registry file and files placed in the Wndows system folders (usually C:\Windows\system32). These are only created by doing a formal first-time cold-install from the UIview installer file.

Finally, the UIview installer is frozen in time as of April 2004, with the death of it's author. Many of it's default settings are now over 16 years out-of-date. See my web pages for information on the dozens of changes that need to be made after the initial install. This includes work-arounds for Windows 10.

I will check on the different ( specific ) prolific drivers. I have been on your pages and looked and looked for what I'm missing. That driver though makes the most sense. Now that I'm writing this, I'm remembering that I still have the OEM disk.

Will attempt the driver solution.

Kevin's GMail on Nexus
The original drive disk will be useless for Windows 10.? [At the time Streets & Trips was sold, the latest version of Windows was XP.] Especially if you have a 64-bit system.

64-bit Windows, since Win 7, requires an officially Microsoft-blessed (a.k.a. "signed") driver before Windows will allow the driver to install. Windows Update will "automagically" provide the latest signed Win 10 driver for the Prolific chip. However, Prolific has produced over a half-dozen different chips over the last decade and a half that they maddeningly and confusingly call the "PL-2303".?? The one in the Pharos is decades old, and may not work reliably with the latest signed Win 10-64 driver.??? [Some versions of the PL-2303 are notorious for working reliably with some applications, but not others, even on the same system with the same driver.]

One solution is to toss the Pharos (which was a lousy rather insensitive GPS receiver even when the driver worked) and replace it with a Globalsat BU-353-S4.??? This is a modern device based on the SiRF 4? GPS chip set which is FAR more sensitive, achieves lock vastly faster and uses one third of the power.?? The Globalsat device still uses a (recent) version of the Prolific 2303, but it seems to be far more stable with the current Prolific driver than older versions of the 2303.???? The BU-353 is available from Amazon for under $30.
