In UIview, open "Setup, GPS Setup" .? At the bottom of the GPS dialog, there is a checkbox to actually turn on the GPS input "GPS enabled (F8)" .?? Is this checked??? You can enable this on this dialog, or toggle it ON or OFF from any screen with "F8".

Four boxes above this checkbox on the same screen is the checkbox for "Show GPS cross-hairs".?? Ensure this is checked if you want them.

Note that the crosshairs only update once every 10 seconds by default.? If you have a fast system (remember, UIview was was frozen in time 16 years ago with the death of it's author, when "fast" meant a single-core Pentium II !) , you can speed up this update rate to 2 or 3 seconds - more useful if you are moving and have a high-res map display like Precision Mapping zoomed down to street level.

If the GPS is correctly connected and enabled, you should be able to monitor the incoming GPS data stream by pulling down "Action, Show GPS input" in UIview.

By the way, the Microsoft GPS is actually a Pharos iGPS-180 rebranded. If you have the USB version of this device, it is equipped with the infernal Prolific PL2303 USB<-->serial chip.?? You may have to fiddle with various versions of the driver for this chip, to get one that works reliably on a given system. More details on my website at:

But I believe it would still show the GPS input window populated with coordinates, speed, time, etc.

I am not getting the crosshairs to show the location either.

Re: I need some help configurnig UI-View.

Have you taken a look at the setup notes/examples in the RP Manual here:

Tons of info and setup examples in the above and on the www.robust-packet.net website

Make sure you have the appropriate settings and mode programmed into the Tracker before even attempting to use UI-View with it. UI-View32 is just going to kick it into KISS mode using whatever you programmed it for as the active mode (300, RP300, 1200, 9600 etc). Put a terminal on the TNC and make sure you can even decode traffic off 10.1473 USB dial before going further.

Many seem to get hung up on the Communications / KISS setup screens, the attached example should help. Once UI-View32 is up and running the KISS LED on the modem should be lit.

Room for minor tweaks to UI-View32's defaults since they were selected for VHF vs HF, but the above should get you going along.

I need some help configurnig UI-View.

I want to create a robust packet gateway using an SCS-tracker. I have had it work in the past but something is not right. I have everything essentially set up.
Before I get into any detail I would like to find someone using it as a gateway, using it for robust packet (or think that that's not a problem anyhow) and has about 45 minutes to spare. I have the software installed, and the last time I used it the issue was that I could not see my own gateway in the map so didn't know if I was even sending out beacons. I can get into allof that later.
Thanks.

HI

Given that it is very east to generate static maps for yourself, most people do this and don't bother to publish them anywhere as they are generally customized to personal taste.

There are many on-line sources of maps where you can grab a .jpg or whatever, such as Google maps, VirtualEarth, OpenstreetMap, etc

Hi every one and thank you to the group admin for all the hard work put into this group.

As this software has been around for years ,i am surprised at the limited number of maps available.

In the maps folder there is a good map of europe ,from that i was wondering who and where this map came from ?

Reason i am asking is that i would like an enlarged section of the UK and Ireland.

Can anyone help with this request Please ??

Kind Regards

Hello,

When you like to make your own UIview maps, download TAHO v4.12 or higher. It makes the maps and "inf" file.... It is FREE.

I don't know where the OEM maps provided from UIview came from, but there is a source for an unlimited number of static (non-scrolling non-zooming fixed view) maps for UIview for any part of the world.

"Universal Maps Downloader" is a shareware program that will automatically download and stitch bitmap tiles from Google Maps, Microsoft Bing Maps, Yahoo Maps, Open Street Maps and may other sites into seamless map images of virtually any size.? It allows you to download either street map, satellite views or relief/topo views from any of these sources. You only have to provide the lat/long coordinates of the upper-left and lower-right corners of the area of interest.

I have generated hundreds of maps for numerous UIview installations with this application. Go to my web site for more details at:

Did you perhaps change the miscellaneous settings to a very short expire time? Try something like 60-90 minutes. It just depends how long you want a station to stay on the screen after it was last heard.

UI-View has supported sound card TNCs from the start, and the changes to get it to conform to current settings are minimal.

UI-View is so old now that it requires all kinds of fixes to get it to work correctly. The author passed away years ago and the source code was destroyed upon his death bed instruction I am told. I learned a lot about how these applications work but APRSISCE has been the most impressive!
