Re: The memory problem

In article <E14EbcU-0003rX-00@...>,
Firstly, over the last couple of days, every time I fire up my PC I get the
following error messge:-

Attnengn caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 0167:bff87f03
^^^^^^^^ that will relate to something you are running. I've just done
a web search on it, but didn't get any hits. Also a search of the MS
support site. Is the spelling definitely correct?
I did a search, and found that the file causing the error message belongs to
Attune, which came with GetRight. Which was what I downloaded before
attempting to get the 45MB USA call list. The readme file that came with it
says this:-

====================================
B. WHAT IS ATTUNE?
====================================

Attune is a revolutionary service that provides you with targeted
Intelligram messages to help you avoid common computer problems. Attune
may also let you know when you need a specific product, service, or upgrade to
optimize the use of your computer.

Attune runs quietly in the background and automatically updates its
Intelligrams
when you are connected to the Internet. If you are about to encounter a
situation
that is known to cause problems, Attune presents you with the solution to the
situation through an Intelligram.

Aveo Inc., maker of Attune, is dedicated to making your computer easier to
use and
ensuring your privacy. Through Attune's unique "private filtering," no
personal information ever leaves your computer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------

I've never, to the best of my knowledge, seen an intelligram message
(whatever one of those is) but I have noticed that the modem dials out at
'odd' times, when I've not fired Outlook Express, but OE tends to decide to
do that for itself at times anyway, so I can't be sure that it is Attune.

What else have you got running on the PC? Have you tried stopping other
apps and seeing what happens? As far as I know, only two or three people
have seen this memory problem occur, so perhaps a comparison of the
other apps, hardware drivers, etc, running on the PCs in question might
give a clue.
As I fire up the PC, the following seem to be loaded into the system tray
(bottom right of the task bar)
Volume
Printers
RealPlayer
GetRight
FCCSrv V1.00

Attune also used to come up in the system tray, but it didn't on this
session. I've also just got rid of EzAudio, as it was conflicting with the
new sound card. (Boy, did that take some shifting as well!)

In an attempt to create the problem, for the past two days I've been
running UI-View32 on my 486DX2/66 with 16Mb and Win95 OSR2. Yes, it's
slow! But it's not misbehaving. I've got AGWPE, WeatherView, UI-View32,
WinPack, System Monitor and Resource Meter running. After two days I now
have:-

System resources 70%
User resources 70%
GDI resources 80%
Swapfile size 17.3Mb
Swapfile in use 8.8Mb
UI-View is almost always the first program that I run from the desktop when
I first fire up. Unless I run WinPack and go to the BBS to download lists
of messages that I don't then download the bodies of the messages. :-)

Hope that this helps a little more?
