Basically, you connect the radio receiver audio to the computer record? LINE-IN? or MIC? jack for RECEIVE.???? And connect the computer audio-out? (usually called? "LINE OUT",? "SPEAKERS", or "HEADPHONES" ) to the radio's mic jack to TRANSMIT. Essentially, you substitute the computer audio-in ("RECORD") and audio-out ("PLAYBACK") for the RX-audio-in? and TX-audio-out of the hardware TNC.

Are you going to receive-only,? or do you need to transmit also? ?? If you need to transmit, you will need some sort of "sound card interface" device that can generate PTT (push-to-talk) for the radio transmitter.

I have many times, used a Bearcat 760 scanner connected to the MIC-IN of a computer running the Soundmodem app to setup an instant receive-only igate.

What kind of radio are you using?
