You should use the path settings recommended by the Digi operators near you. Where populations are less dense you likely can use more complex path settings.
Where populations are dense, most digi operators would say to beacon less often, and use shorter paths.
You may find clues to what is working by setting your station for receive only and watching what others use and which paths work for them.
As a group we should use paths that are only as long as needed and beacon as seldom as necessary to let others know your location. We use a shared resource. Don't use more than your fair share.
