Hello all .......I have a manufacturer-built model of a Byonics TT4A that had previously been successfully used ONLY as a mobile unit, for vehicle position reporting/tracking, and am now trying to set it up to be used at my residence as a fixed station Digi-peater for the local area, instead.? Any help is DEFINITELY appreciated.? I just updated the Firmware from Version 0.68 to Version 0.72 successfully, before getting it up on the air, if that helps. ( The TT4A has the 1284 Chipset, now loaded with the 0.72 Firmware for the 1284 chipset.) ? It is connected to an old ICOM IC-28H mobile radio, putting out 45W on TX, thru a tri-band (either a Comet or a Diamond 70cm/2m/6m) fiberglass-encased omni on the top of my 60' tower, so antenna height is approximately 75' above terrain, and is clear of the treetops in my yard.?? I AM getting RX indications on the TT4A, so it is doing at least that much. ( I also monitored the signals on my primary voice station radio, that is connected on a separate 2 mtr tower/antenna array, for simultaneous RX signal verification.) ? Anyone ELSE out there using their TT4A as a digipeater, or KNOWS how to set it up????? I'm all ears! Thanks....? ?Dave in NE Texas / KL7BX Thursday / 1-16-10 / 11:55 PM CST? / |

Re: Sending APRS message thru PC serial using TT4
Well, there are 3 basic things: 1. Make sure you have the TT4 connected properly (comercial cables to data jack or personal made cables ??? Those connectors aren't very common.? Use pins 1,2,3, and either pin4 or pin5 (baud rate specific, ???? but I find either works if set properly).? Best to use TONES rather than SQL line. ???? I had to check the advanced manual to see the pinout. 2. Configure the TT4 RXAMP and TXLEVEL according to the Quick Start Guide ??? Since your say it is not decoding, this is definitely where you want to start. 3. Properly format the message ??? I'd start with a position report.? ?????? These are easily done by copying one from the TT4 itself or off air and alter it slightly. ??? Then you can try others according to Robert Giuliano

Re: TT4BT not connecting in Fedora 31
BlueTooth under Linux is rather strange. Make sure you find the correct device.? The serial port connection usually has a designation of /dev/rfcomm#. You don't say what application you are running on Fedora (XASTIR, something under WINE, or some other app).? Each has their own, but rrunning under WINE is probably the most tricky. Robert Giuliano

TT4BT not connecting in Fedora 31
I'm installing a mobile I-gate in my truck to fill-in in remote regions.
Recently started using the TT4BT instead of 232-USB cable with my laptop.? Pairs and connects to my phone with APRSDroid.? Running Fedora 31, it pairs but starts the connect process, then errors.? Has anyone else run into this issue and what was your solution? Thanks, Peter - VE7PPE |

Re: TinyTrak3+ Changing Firmware
You are fundamentally correct in all your assumptions about the TT3. You can't load a .t3f file into either a blank PIC, or a existing PIC 16F628 chip, since neither of these have the Byonics bootloader required to install the file. You can update your old TT3+ by purchasing a new, 16F1827 PIC from Byonics, and you will be able to install any .t3f file ( WXtrak, TinyPack, etc) to convert your old TT3 into any compatible device. Not all .t3f files will actually work in a TT3, since some are hardware specific, including all of the Micro-Trak transmitter/transceiver products.?
Byonics recommends TeraTerm because it's free and runs on Windows, but you can use pretty much any any terminal program to load new firmware into a TT3 chip. It's easier for us to help you with any required troubleshooting if you are using Windows and TT, since we use it every day. Again, you won't be able to re-write your old 628 or brand new (blank) 1827 chip without the bootloader, which is closely held.

This query is more to a matter of interest, at least at the moment, but I am confused. I have a TT3+ which uses a 16F628 PIC included in the kit. I note from the Byonics site, they have made other Firmware available for different applications (rather than the basic tracker) and a set of tracker Firmware to revert to the tracker mode (a later version) if you change your mind.? Out of interest, I downloaded the file which includes in the instructions a cryptic (to me at least) comment: "Note only TinyTrak3Plus's with the 16F1827 chip can be upgraded this way." I assume from this, the current TT3+ are shipped with a 16F1827, which it seems is compatible with the 16F628 (I am happy to be correct on this).? There is also a reference to?Tera Term Pro and, reading the instructions, it seems the supplied 16F1827 has some extra code included to allow it to work with Tera Term Pro,? Again, I am happy to be corrected on this.? Now my question: Can I use another method (in particular a normal programmer) to simply load the? *.t3f? file into either a? 16F1827 or even a 16F628 (a new one) and use the programmed device in my? TT3+. I am assuming Tera Term Pro is a Windows programme and, while I can access a Windows machine, I prefer to use Linux.? Yes it sounds too loud and distorted. ?Listen to other packets from nearby stations and lower your audio to match using the CALIBRATE and 1 or 2 keys. ?

Re: Not Transmitting Correctly
Robert, You have PPERIOD set to 0, it will never send a packet other than a startup packet. Try setting 120 ( Seconds) I suspect that is your root problem cause. When you say " It sounds completely? wrong?and not producing the data tone at all" exactly what do you mean? From your Youtube video, it sounds like you are sending packets, perhaps just a start-up packet, just fine, although perhaps a bit over-driven. If you have deduced from the fact that your packets have not been appearing on that you are sending invalid or distorted packets, you should consider a possible fault?in that reasoning. You have alias 1 set to TEMP. I suggest setting it to WIDE for testing, to see if you are even within range of any portion of the APRS network. Later, you can choose a more appropriate digipath. TEMP will probably not work anywhere. ?The single most common cause of distortion in packets using your setup is RF interfering with the TT4. I suggest trying again with an external mobile or base antenna, or a dummy load, to see if the distortion ( Which I can't hear in your video but may be there) goes away.? Why do you have both ports set to a 4800 Baud GPS? Only PORT B needs to be set up for a plug and play GPS. PORT A should be left alone at 19200 (defaults) unless you have a pressing need ro another bad rate or mode. 73, Allen AF6OF On Tue, Nov 12, 2019 at 9:49 AM Robert Garcia <kf5vlz@...> wrote:
