I don't have one of those cut-offs but in my solar go box is a solar controller and when it gets down to a certain voltage it will shut off. I have never noticed any issue of pulling power from any of my tt4s other than every once in a long
while it might go deaf til a power cycle. My buddy also has a 555 timer on our local digi as some weird packets sometimes cause the tt4 to lock up. It resets itself every 24 hrs so even if it gets that packet that locks up it still will be back up.?

Subject: [TinyTrak] Aprsworld APO3 use
I've been using an Aprsworld APO3 battery cutoff for several years now and during that time i've had several TinyTrak units go bad
and stop working. Do I just have a bad one or has anybody else had this problem? I like the idea of not having to run an on/off switch up to the front but not at the cost of replacing a TT3 or even worse a TT4. Has anybody found a battery cut off that works better? This could be the reason why Byonics doesn't sell them? -- 73, Don W4GCW |

Re: How To
I believe you are referring to the symbol table and getting the symbol you want.
The symbol is not generated in the BTEXT.? There are specific "parameters" for that: These use normal characters, I believe 94 is the "^" character and you want the alternate table: ? ? TSYMCODE ^ ? ? TSYMTABLE \ I almost forgot one VERY IMPORTANT aspect: You must start the BTEXT with a relevant character to indicate the message type. For the TT4, that is typically the ">" character. So your BText should be something like: ? ??BTEXT >TT4 Alpha Temp: ^T Bat: ^V ------- Robert Giuliano KB8RCO |
Re: How To
What is the [Alt#} command?
You say you access the area where it wants the ? and esc3.? So you get into the Options Menu. You say you type disp and I assume you see all the settings. from the prompt after the disp is complete type: ??? btext TT4 state Bat=^V and Temp=^T??????????????????????????????? {or your message before the information) the TT4 should respond with something like: ?? btext was {old BText comment} ?? btext now TT4 state Bat=^V and Temp=^T power cycle the TT4 and you should be good ------- Robert Giuliano KB8RCO |
Re: How To
Thanks for the quick replys. However my question how can I type in the [alt #} command when it just ignores it? I can access the area where it want the ? and esc3 . I can do a disp. But when I go the btext to change the command using the {alt #} command, it just looks at me and blinks. I can edit or change anything, but it wont let me do what I want.
?Is my problem the communications program I am using to access the TT4 (using Hyperterm) or is it something else? ?I an using a usb to serial cable. and the cabinet has separate connectors for the computer, radio and WX station. ?Thanks 73 ?Mike - N7ZEF |
Re: How To
You mention TeraTerm, but not the interface device (computer serial device). Many users are powering the TT4 with the TT USB cable for changing settings. This works well for interfacing to the TT4, except you must properly "power cycle" the TT4 to get to the boot loader/Options menu. You CANNOT unplug the USB device because that causes TeraTerm to lose the COM port. You must disconnect/ - reconnect the DE9 connector at the TT4.? This allows the COM port to remain active (TeraTerm stays in communication), but power cycles the TT4 to get the important "?" and "Press ESC 3 times to enter TT4 Option Menu". Option 2 is a bit tricky, but works well for the Kit version: While the serial cable is connected. - removed the TT4 cover - use a small wire to "touch" (momentary connection) pin 9 (Reset) to pin 11?(Gnd) ?? NOTE: Pin 10 is in-between and is power, so start with Pin 9.? Do NOT short 10 & 11! ?????????????? Might be easier to go from Pin 9 to a more convenient Gnd location. ??????????????? PIN??????????????????? PIN ??? ????????????1??????????? \_/??????? 40 ??? ????????????... ??? ??????????????????? ... ?? RST????? 9 ------\ ? ?? ???????? 32 ARef ?? Vcc????? 10??????? | ???????????? 31? AGnd ?? Gnd???? 11 ------/?????????????? 30 ? Vcc (5V ??????????????? ...??????????????????????? ... ??????????????? 20?????????????????????? 21 The "Built" version schematic shows J5 as a SPI/programming header, but I don't see it on the board picture.? That has RST (Pin 5) and GND (Pin 6) in what looks like a convenient place to "touch".? I don't own one, so can't say. Robert Giuliano

Replacement for the Micro-Fox 15 transmitter
In case any of you were wondering, some of the parts for our MF-15 transmitters became extinct, and when we ran dry, so did the old MF-15. It was very much based on the TT3 encoder, and in fact, could be loaded with APRS firmware for anyone who had the urge to have a 15 mW APRS transmitter. ( 15 Milliwatts works surprisingly well as an APRS transmitter at the edge of space...on the ground, not so much) At any rate, we have replacement for the MF-15, the MF-50. The MF-50 follows the same name scheme, and has an output of between 0db and 50 mW's. (Strangely, one of the chief complaints about the MF-15 was that the fixed, 15 mW power output was too high for typical park-style fox hunts!) You can set the output of the new unit anywhere from 1-50, which kinda-sorta reflects the power output settings. Its a whole new RF section and a whole new processor. The unit uses the ubiquitous CH340 USB Drivers, which probably already live in your computer, even, presumably, with Windows 11. You probably already have the programming cable! It can be programmed using pretty much any terminal program or an online configurator, and a GUI will no doubt be along in due course. The MF-50 is NOT backwards compatible with Micro-For Config or any of the APRS firmware versions, but an APRS version is not out of the question.? The transmitter has a Micro USB connector through which you can operate the transmitter or charge an internal? LiPo battery. Here is the manual for any FOX people who may be interested:? ? I went out in the rain a couple of days ago, just to see what kind of range to expect, and a had a fairly solid signal at 5 miles, roof-to-hill top, using a Baofeng UV-50 and an Arrow 3 element yagi, which exceeded my expectations!?

So you are saying that America does not need more digipeaters? (It does; fill-ins mostly)? Or that I have a duty to be politically correct? 开云体育No, No, No, No!??? Keep in mind that for every digipeater you put on the air you HALVE the channel capacity!? That's right you 1/2 the number of packets the channel can pass.?Digipeating is a store and forward system, so as it repeats it duplicates the time needed, and reduces the time available to hear new packets.?? You need to consider the RF environment before you start digipeating.????? If you look at the large metropolitan areas, you actually see the performance of the 'system' decline when random additional digipeaters are put in place. ? Yes, there are large portions of rural America that could benefit from additional digipeaters, and Igates.?? But you need to consider the environs around your area to provide the best service.? I get concerned when general statements about adding digipeaters get thrown out there without qualification.? If people don't understand the implications of placing a device on the air, they risk adding to congestion and decreasing the capacity of the system.? Alan, ?First; Thanks for operating a fill--in digi,? America needs more digipeaters! If we ever reintroduce an MTT4B or MTT4BT, you can bet it will have a reset timer built in! 73, Allen AF6OF

Re: TT4 dead or hung up
Ah, the deadly TT4 Hang....if it was a problem that I could replicate, it would probably be a lot easier to debug....sadly, its underlying cause has remained a complete mystery. It can take months to recur, never happen at all, our happen much more frequently that anyone would care to think about! Bob Bruninga used our MTT4B design in the Naval Academy CUBESATS, and he used a 555 ( actually a 556, but the principal is the same) to do a forced reset on a daily schedule.? Some enterprising gentlemen in Australia were using inexpensive programmable power timers to restart their systems. I have come to the conclusion that remote digipeaters should be treated just like repeaters, and you should have a remote mechanism for shutting them down or restarting them if they start acting up. This is one of the reasons we built the little known DTMF REMOTE (). This allows you to control 8 logic level outputs via DTMF on any 2 meter frequency, so you don't have to rely on the normal input frequency to your digi or repeater, in case its being jammed, accidentally or intentionally.? My other mysterious events are MAX232 chips that suddenly and for no apparent reason overheat and self-destruct. There are millions of internet posts about this, but its still a mystery. Stephen's technique of letting his TT4 just cool down for a few days ( Which I suspect may have included some moments of blasphemy, profanity, obscenity,? and other general abuse of the TT4) seemed to work fine...the thing just went on strike for a few days. No one knows why.? 73, Allen AF6OF (p.s., I am sure Stephen is a perfect Christian Gentlemen who would never use foul language against an innocent TNC)?
