Excellent! The MT-8000FA might be over 84 years old ( In dog years...) so it has a right to have some of its joints to get a little crepitus. Keep in mind that the Gate Voltage will also decay with your Supply Voltage, so it is not a good strategy to set it for minimum and have it unexpectedly fall below the threshold of operation.?

Thank you Allen. I can not tell a lie. I had the meter hooked on to the PCB at the proper points and never saw the voltage change from "0", so yes I was measuring when the mt8k was not transmitting. On closer examination I found one of the solder joints connecting the mt8k and the DE9M had cracked and broken. And one of the wires from the gps puck was down to one strand at the DE9F.? Looking closer to the trim pot I see the graduations and now know that it was set to 2 volts which, according to the manual, produces 0 watts at transmission time. I turned it 1 graduation counter clockwise and now see 2.5 volts while transmitting. A ride around the test path shows that every transmission now shows up on aprs.fi. Success!? Now, to build a sturdy but light weight 1/4 wave ground plane antenna.?
