While I was a in the Navy the Electricians aboard ship had a simple way of switching from Ships Power to Shore Power, and vice-versa.
Turn one off one turn on the other.? I never understood why they didn't match phase rotation.? I think it involved Laziness.

And if you don¡¯t have this (synchroscope) you can go old school and use TWO incandescent light bulbs in series (on EACH leg) and watch them go from full brightness to no brightness.? I once visited a large Navy hospital that had several large backup generators.? They got them all up and running connected in parallel and then connected to the commercial power coming into the facility.? Raised the voltage and took over the load and then cut the commercial power away to let the generators carry the load for a test time.? Did the opposite to go back on commercial power.? A seasoned navy chief did this every Friday evening.? Don¡¯t know what they did when he retired, but it was great to watch.
