Harvey and Pete make excellent points. SA is really limited to a certain
generation of products and it was a means of doing component level repair
without necessarily having a deep technical background. An SA will tell
you if you have a stuck bus, but so will a scope if you know what you're
looking at.

BTW, another signature analyzer was the Atari CAT (computer assisted
troubleshooter) Box and Atari used it for their arcade games (which may
be one of the reasons demand has gone up on these, there just can't be
that many people doing SA on Tek and HP equipment). If you think
prices of HP SAs are bad, the Atari box is in the 700-2000 range and
is relatively rare.
