Help! I bricked a perfectly functioning 2467B! 56
Hello all, I have posted this on the Tekscopes Forum, but I am posting it here too in the hopes that Chuck Harris sees this because I have seen a post of his on the Tekscopes Forum which might solve my problem. I had a perfectly functioning 2467B scope (1989 vintage). After reading about possible loss of calibration data due to the NVRAM battery dying, I decided to put in a new battery (mine is the older version, below 50000 serial #) which has the battery separate from the NVRAM. The battery had a date code of 2689, so the battery is 35 years old. I did hook up a backup battery before removing the Lithium battery and confirmed that pin 28 of the RAM chip had at least 3 V on it from the backup battery after removal of the original battery. After putting in the new replacement battery, I also changed out the 4 electrolytic capacitors on the A5 board. When I put the scope back together and fired her up, I got the dreaded " Test 04 Fail 13" message indicating corrupted or lost calibration data. Not sure how this happened since I hooked up a backup battery before removing the original battery. So, the very thing I was hoping to prevent happened by my being proactive! Before doing all this, I had made a copy of the RAM contents by running through the Exercise 02 option, so I have the original calibration data available. My question is: how to write this data to the RAM? (my scope does not have the GPIB option). Chuck Harris seemed to imply that it would be possible to write the saved calibration data to the RAM manually. I look forward to your suggestions and hope to get this fine scope functioning again!

DPO70804 8
I have a DPO70804 scope. The display is dark. I have determined that the fluorescent backlight tubes are not lit. I connected an XGA monitor to the XGA socket on the rear, and the XGA monitor displays the scope display and all functions are working correctly. I have been trying to determine if the display tubes or the voltage supply for those tubes is bad, or if the problem is elsewhere. The service manual I have for the unit contains no schematics nor any info on a way to test the fluorescent display circuit. The power supply board has a 20-pin plug with voltages on the pins. All the voltages are correct as per a drawing in the manual, except for the -5 volt pin (pin 18). That measures 0 volts. But on the drawing, there is an asterisk next to the -5 volt pin, with no explanation I can find anywhere of what the asterisk means. The PS-ON pin measures 0 volts and the PW-OK pin measures +5 volts. Can anybody give me any guidance or suggestions? Zack

TDS744A Acquisition/ Attenuator Problem 7
I have an TDS744A That has Had many Different Problems. I have Gotten it down to the Acquisition board and Attenuators. I am look for some advice on what to do next, as there are no schematics that match this board layout but are close i have to admit. The Acquisition Proc interface fails and the Acquistion also fails, but where I get confused is the Cal initialization passes.... and there is a terrible amount of DC offset on all channels and as the scope is on for a longer time they tend to drift. Tried the recal and it say they are basic too far off to cal. Now I do have the report from the debug port but not at the moment and can add it to this thread if it helps. Just wanted to see if anyone had some advice as to what to try next, is it the attenuators? Is it the relays within the attenuators? Having trouble accepting this due to before the scope fail the attenuator seems to be fine and no dc offset or drift. Also, the attenuators get hot hot i thought they would run cooler than they are....just an observation at this time tho.... Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks Mike

Replacing NVRAM in Tektronix TDS680C scope
I run from any digital scope, I don't want to deal with the drama of finding parts and softwares. HOWEVER- there is a (transgender) gal on YouTube who is quite amazing in her abilities to restore almost anything. Go to Youtube, enter a search for "Glasslinger". You can easily find her replacing the NVRAM in a TDS680C. Her abilities with an incredible variety of equipment are amazing. Bruce Gentry, KA2IVY

standalone sampling head use 8
I can stick a 1S2 into a 132 power supply and use the 1S2 with a Rigol scope, for example. For the 560-series there's the 129, but it's quite large, rare, and seems to need more stuff before I can use a S-6 by itself for example. Is there another way to use 3S series plugins and heads without a 560 mainframe?

DPO7254 SPC Fail 12
Hello, I purchased a DPO7254 that is failing SPC. The channels seem to all work in all modes. Both 1mOhm and 50Ohm and all voltage ranges on all channels seem to be working properly but SPC keeps failing. What are the common causes for this and how do I go about repairing it. This is my first Tektronix. The only other experience I have with oscilloscopes is a rigol that I¡¯ve owned for 10 years. If someone can put me in the right direction. Also, how do I retrieve error codes/logs?

7633 CRO 3
7633 CRO frame with service manual (no plugins, but might be available depending on demand). Hasn't be used for a long time, so would be advisable to do the 240V variac treatment (i ramp it up 20V per hour). Also a 7490 service manual. <https://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/7633> Selling for a lowish amount and can be picked up at the EMDRC Car Boot Sale - Sunday 24 March 2024 10am-1pm EMDRC Clubrooms, 13a McCubbin St Burwood East Melbourne, Australia Also selling a vacuum chamber and couple of vacuum pumps among other things. Good for re-impgregnating flyback transformers.

Tek 7104, 7904, HP141T 4
Hi, I've have a Tek 7104 with a 500MHz timebase plugin (7A29 ? it's around here somewhere) and a 7904. The 7104 looks new and i have a thick service manual for it. The 7904 is older looking and also has a manual. I've got like 20+ vertical and timebase plugins. I haven't switch them on for years but worked last time i used them. Would be good to gradually ramp up the mains voltage to reform the caps using a variac. I'm trying to make space, and so would be good for them to go to a suitable collector or someone that treats them well. I can deliver to the Melbourne (Australia) and surrounding regions. I won't post them (unless someone convinces me otherwise). I still do and think of analog stuff a lot, but the software and programming side of things (all aimed at analog electronic things eventually) means this gear won't be used for a long time. Also got an HP141T spec-an system with all the plugins to cover from audio to 18GHz, and its 2 tracking generators (an 8443B 100kHz-110MHz and a 8444A-opt059 0.5-1500MHz). Got service manuals for all of them iirc. It all worked last time i used them. The caps would probably need reforming. This gear is a bit clunky to use compared to more modern CPU controlled gear, but is very repaireable. I have extender cards for servicing around somewhere too. If there's too many takers, i would have to figure out the most worthy (probably someone that has the most gear, or that does the most impressive things). If there's no one, i'll take them to hamfests.

Converting TR502 tracking generator to TR503 14
Hi All TEK lovers, I would like to try and convert a TR502 to a TR503 I understand that I need a 55Mhz crystal to replace the 52.5Mhz.The specs say its a series resonant quartz crystal , do I need to know anything else about the type of cut, capacitance of oscillator cct etc, to order one of these Xtals ?? I read to re align the B.P.Filter can be a pain . Is it feasible to try and align, (the whole filter assy ) with a 3Ghz VNA out of circuit (the block diagram shows this as a four cavity BPF with a combined 2.2 ghz LPF at the front and a mixer at the output) I only see two locked allen key screws on the sides of the metal box, are these the adjustment screws, or am I missing something (did not want to open it in case I upset something ) If I should not use a VNA , the alignment procedure in the maintenance section is for use with a 7L13 Specy plugin, but I want it for a Tek 494 .....so can I connect it to that Specy (494) and would this allow me to have a go at re aligning the BPF or do you need to connect it to a 7L13 to re tune. I have never aligned such a very high frequency filter so I am a little scared that I will ruin a working TR502 Any help greatly appreciated Regards George

WTB: Tektronix 7A12 and 7B53A plugins 2
I need a pair of Tek 7K plugins. I thought I would try here before going to the auction site. 7A12......I actually have a need for this specific amplifier type. (dual inverting) 7B53A w/Option 5......it must have the video trigger option. I'm not interested in projects this time around. I need to use them now so they need to be working 100% and with no damage...(no busted knobs or pull tabs, etc.) Please contact me off-list if you have one or both to spare. Thanks!

Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply 19
I posted this on tekscopes but nobody seemed interested in helping in any way, not even a smartaleck comment. Nothing. Maybe y'all can help. Can anyone tell me how to safely test the power supply out of the scope, and specifically the output of U1371 without being connected to U1040 so I can try and make sure that U1371C isn't throwing too much voltage at U1040? I have a new U1040 to install, but I'd sure hate to throw it all together and discover that 1371 also has issues requiring a replacement of 1371 and a second replacement of 1040. Do I need to test the power supply assembled on the bench, with the dummy load connected to 5V with all comb connectors installed with U1040 removed? Or can I remove the comb connector from J233A/B to isolate the regulator/inverter feedback circuit?

New Chat: Is Chuck Harris still winding 545B transformers? 16 #chat-notice
A new chat has been created: My beloved 545B has had the fading trace problem for years. Keeping the humidity low in the lab has worked for a while, but now it's driving me nuts. Love to know if I could get it rewound and for how much? By: Conrad Hoffman <choffman@...> View/Join This Chat Do not reply to this message to post to the chat.
