Powering up Tek 7704A and 7603 after several year. 5
Hi group can anyone advise me on a safe procedure for powering up these scopes that have remained dormant for 3-4 years? I understand SMPS are not fond of Variacs so would a lamp limiter or combination of Variac and lamp limiter be a good option? Thanks Hugh

2465 Power Supply 13
I've been working on the 2465 power supply again, it is a lovely 'scope but there is one little problem - the display isn't 100% stable, especially the characters - they have a sort of fizz, can't think how else to describe it. It's not a wobble, the characters stay in place but it's like the intensity has a high-frequency modulation. Voltages are lovely: 10.005 / 87.00 / 42.70 / 15.07 / 5.005 (digital) / 4.997 (analog) / -5.009 / -8.098 / -17.02 I have changed all the electrolytics on the A2 board and C1021, C1022 on the A3 board. Everything looks sweet but the display isn't as good as it could be. I think it'll be a capacitor change again, can anyone suggest where to begin? Thanks, Richard

7704A power supply fail (big leak of the main caps) 7
Hi all, And Happy Holidays to all celebrating! I've woken up the morning of Christmas Eve to a nice surprise - smoke, noises, smell, etc. Upon pulling out the power supply, I see that the main caps (computer grade Sprague caps) have failed and made a big mess inside the unit. Things have been leaking so bad this morning, I had to take it apart very quickly, and scrambled to wash off any of the goo and electrolyte. Luckily, I think this all almost happen in front of my eyes, so not much of this stuff has stayed very long on the board, but there's some more serious damage on the board and traces just below the caps. Some requests for input: what have you found best for cleaning this up? I used various sizes cotton swabs to cosmetic pads and alcohol (not single malt... ;)) suggestions on caps replacements? I haven't started looking, but I do have some faves to search (Nebraska Surplus, etc.). When scrambling to extract the caps without leaking too much in too many places I've detached a very short wire (white/green?). I really hate it when the design includes short sighted decisions like this - where a wire is too short to open up access by unfolding a board while all other wires are long enough, WTH? Would anyone know offhand where this attaches? I know this is a very long shot. Does anyone have a spare, "known good," PS and is willing to depart with it? Thank you all. Radu.

Tektronix 2230 Y axis issue #photo-notice
Hello, I'm new to this group and I'd like to submit a problem I have with my Tektronix 2230 oscilloscope : I'm trying to adjust the Y axis as per service manual instructions, to no avail. The best I could achieve is this attached image below, there's no way I can expand the lower border of the outer box to the bottom of the screen. Adjust Store Y Offset and Gain screenshot Voltages on pins 18 and 16 of the DAC U9220 18/16 pins (-8,6V and +5V) are spot on, R9223 value is perfect. R9224 is set fully clockwise. Where should I look ? Suggestions ? Merry Christmas to all.

Tek2465B power supply troubleshooting 6
2465B S/N B077993 Inverter card 670-7282-12? Regulator 670-7281-08 Previous repairs unknown. ? ?Looking into a power supply that is basically non- functional on some voltages. I have removed it from the scope and connected it to power supplies loading assembly that was built by Jerry Massengale. This is perfect for checking power supply and have used it over the years. But now I¡¯m stuck and cannot seem to see what is causing low voltage from supplies to be out of tolerance. +87= 60vdc +42= 19.92vdc -15VU=-17.80vdc +10=0.113vdc +5VD=+4.13vdc +5=3.3vdc -5=-2.8vdc -15=-1.47vdc -8=-2.15vdc +15=+2.58vdc I looked into the inverter troubleshooting and built myself a +5VD primary test load and then went back to inverter troubleshooting and decided this isn¡¯t going to help me as it seems to stop at +10vdc. I went thru and checked the unregulated voltages at J234b side. 1=-17vdc,2=-6.3vdc,3=gnd,4=+6.3vdc, 5=+17.3 (All a little low by 2vdc) J233b side. 1=-6.2vdc,2=+17.2,3=+48,4=Gnd,5=+90.8. (These seem close a bit high but 1=6.2vdc is way high as per schematic) This is where I¡¯m at right now. If anyone would like to make any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Craig Cramb

Hi Everyone, Hopefully, I can find help here or be directed. The Tektronix 80E04 20GHz TDR module needs sampling diodes. I don't know where to start for such a high frequency device and if it can be replaced due its small size. Please see the following photos to help in researching the defective parts. Thank you. The Photos are under "80E04".

Heads on possible "fake" 2465B on ebay
This is a FYI that this 2465B on ebay is possibly a converted 2445B: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304721625191 The badge above CRT is fake and the blue filter appears to be a blue plastic film placed behind the implosion shield. Scopes with these modifications, especially the fake badge, have been shown to be converted 2445Bs. --Victor

Manual for 1240/1240 ROM Decoder packs needed. 12RM21 is at the top of the list 2
Folks, A number of folks are looking to use the microprocessor disassembly ROM packs for their 1240/1241 analyzers. Unfortunately, while the ROM packs are readily available, the documentation, which specifies which pin of the micro goes to which pod/channel all appear to be MIA. I've been puzzling out some of these over on the w140.com wiki, but the actual docs would be much less error prone, even if you can only mail me a photo of the page with the micro to pod connection listing. Many thanks! Bob

P6015A with loose cushion ring
Hi folks, I have a P6015A where the black ring is loose. The ring (made out of some kind of rubber, maybe black silicone) is shown in manual pg. 2-14. Manual says on pg. 2-11: ¡ring may not be removed. The grey silicone, that bonded the ring before is present. The cushion ring fits exactly on the grey silicone. Maybe a previous owner peeled off the ring sometime. It is no problem to assemle all parts properly. (That seems to be the case at least.) A rough check with 230V mains showed plausible values. (Probe is designed for 1.5 to 20 kV.) The question is: Can arcing or other problems occur? Is performance degraded? Pictures see (not my probe, just for comparison): /g/TekScopes2/album?id=281880 Manual see: https://w140.com/tekwiki/images/3/3d/070-8223-05.pdf Thanks in advance. Stefan

7844 mode switch repair or swapping with "dedicated" version
I have a 7844 that sort of works. The mode switches are intermittent -- odd level shifts or opens happen when pushing the buttons. The board that contains vert and horiz switches and vert, horiz separation pots is not hard to remove. Do you think it will respond well to washing out with naphtha? Does anyone know if swapping the board of option 21, dedicated vertical mode, works from low serial numbers to high? (dedicated vertical mode means left bay is always beam 1, right vert is always beam 2.)
