TDS460 - time to boot
5
Hi all, I recently repaired a TDS460, but I am a bit taken aback by its about 1 minute 10 seconds boot time to fully up - is this normal? My HP 54522A takes a mere maybe a dozen seconds to being able to perform measurements. Once up, everything functions perfectly and in spec. The only less than ideal thing I am aware of is one of the internal batteries is not in best shape (the other one is good). Thank you, Radu.

[TekScopes] Fast edge pulse generator ...
2
For ~300ps into 50ohms, have a look at https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/show-us-your-square-wave/msg1902941/#msg1902941 To get a reasonable edge, decoupling is critical. Another simple alternative is the "cal out" generator in Tek 485s, at under 1ns.

Hi, I am trying to put together a test device to check the BW of my scopes. Can anyone suggest a simple module or design that would do the deed without costing the earth ?? I probably need a rise-time of < 1ns. Thanks in advance, Dave

Greetings. I work in the audio industry and had my teen years in the back yard of Tektronix , so naturally gravitated to using Tek gear. I am not a collector, just a user,... Tek 577 unable to display more than 5 steps
17
Dear All, I am struggling with this unit for some time. The waveform at TP305 is correct, according to the manual. However I can not obtain more than 5 steps at TP-306. I have checked the voltage at U305B-3 which should "define" the maximum number of steps and it varies from 0.05 to 4.75V , as expected. Just as a desperate measure I have alredy replaced U305, U220, U350, Q306 and Q324 without success. I have created a photo album with the waveforms at TP-305, TP-306 , tthe 577 display as well as the pertinent schematics sheets. See /g/TekScopes2/album?id=279289. Any help will be welcome. Thanks, Roger

AFG5101, arb func gen, looking for manuals....?
2
Hi all, I am currently looking for copies or scans of the Instrument Interfacing Guide (part no. 070-6759-00) and the Reference Guide (part no. 070-6761-00) for the AFG5101 arbitrary function generator. These seem to be a bit rare, so the usual suppliers (Artek etc) don't seem to have them... Anyone got a copy of these they can send/sell to me by chance? Thanks! Jared

SC 503 Enhance/Integrate removed on later units
7
The Enhance/Integrate knob + corresponding electronic components (Storage schematic 10) have been removed on later units, SN B040000 and higher. The remaining circuit + CRT was mainly unchanged. Why has this been done? Did it stress the CRT too much? Stefan

Updated album Tek 577 unable to display more than 5 steps ***SOLVED***
#photo-notice
Rogerio O <rodd414@...> updated the album Tek 577 unable to display more than 5 steps ***SOLVED***: The waveform at TP305 is fine, but when I turn the knob to increase the number of step s, the maximum I can get is 5. I have attached the schematics so anybody willing to help does not have to look up for them. The problem was caused by a deffective Q234. After replacing it by a 2N3565, the circuit began to function as expected.

Scope carts for a 465
2
I need a scope cart for one of my 465s. I'd like one of the "single rod support" style. Is there a reason to prefer one of the 200 series (K212, 200-1,200-2, etc) over another, or are they all more or less equivalent for a 465? -- Lee K. Gleason N5ZMR Control-G Consultants lee.gleason@...

AFG5101 Option 02, can someone check a part number on theirs?
6
Hi all, I'm thinking of creating my own version of the Option 02 PCB for my AFG5101, but the service manual seems a bit lacking in parts lists... Only showing part details for PCB A1 (Option 02 is PCB A5) The schematics seem to have the needed part details for all parts except Transistors Q900, Q901, Q902, Q903, IC's U905, U914, and Crystal XTAL900. Here's a link to an image showing the locations of the parts: https://i.imgur.com/3nS7xs2.png Can someone who has this option in their AFG5101 pull the board out and let me know what the part numbers for these parts are? Some photos of the parts and the entire board would be greatly appreciated too, if possible. If I'm successful in replicating this option PCB, I'll release the gerbers and BOM for others to use too. Thanks! Jared.

FS: 465 parts scopes
2
I have 4 465 part scopes I need to get rid of. One is complete, one is 99% complete, the other two are missing various bits. All guaranteed not to work. These came out of a firm that did CNC repair. I'd really prefer to not ship these and I don't have time to part them out myself. Located around Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prices range from $35 - $55 depending on completeness. Take them all and get a deal (eg, $100 for all 4). Drop me a note offlist if interested. 2467 Boot Error Message
17
I'm posting here parts of a thread that previously ran on Tekscopes in case there are others who may have another slant on this problem. The scope boots up with a DIAGs message of Test 04 Fail 03. Once the A/B trig button has cleared the message I can't find any apparent faults with the scope; everything seems to function. A5 RAM was replaced early on (no change found); extensive checks on the battery (unable to determine ANY detrimental effect of the battery.... appears in very good shape); CAL 01/02/03/04/05 successfully done in ALL steps; CAL 06 not done because I don't have the TD pulser; CAL 07 not done because there was no reason to do so (no READOUT centering issues). The readout does have a series of "????" filling in all the (otherwise) empty gaps between the normal readout symbols. These "???" change to "...." when in CAL mode. I assume these are simply a warning that the scope is running with some issues in the background. EXER 03 run several times but without any result. The "Fail 03" is strange because nowhere in any manual that I've read does "03" appear in ANY error table for ANY test. It's clearly a numeric code and not HEX otherwise other error codes in other tables would not make any sense in the HEX domain. So I don't think that "11" is equivalent to "03" even if it's tempting to think so. For example, error codes in Table 6-4 have a multitude of clearly non-HEX values. Any suggestions from anyone?

7L13 Spectrum Analyzer Readout PCB removal
Hi all, My 7L13 Spectrum Analyzer is back up and running but has some instability and other idiosyncrasies. After having a Tantalum fail recently, it is time to replace as many of the Tantalums as practical. I don't intend to replace them all, just the ones that I can get to without major disassembly or causing any damage. I also intend to re-seat transistors and chips that I can get to. My problem is the removal of both the DVM Readout and DVM Analog PCBs as per the Maintenance section of the 7L13 Manual, page 6-8 in my Version to get to Tantalum cap C2000. Looks simple, should be simple ... . but the Readout PCB will not come out. I have the DVM Analog PCB out okay, everything disconnected and the Readout PCB tilted "almost" as per the photo on page 6-9 Fig 6.5B ... but not quite enough. I have the PCB 'flexed' slightly already .... I am worried about flexing the Board further and breaking it. Has anyone here done this?? Am I missing something simple here?? Any advice?? If too difficult, I will leave it alone as it tests 'good' in circuit .... Cheers, Ian, Melbourne, Australia

How to remove delay time position knob and pot on a 465?

I need to remove the delay time knob and pot from a 465. Getting the inner knob off looks easy (as soon as the .050" Allen bit gets here from Amazon). How do I remove the outer part of the knob, and the pot? -- Lee K. Gleason N5ZMR Control-G Consultants lee.gleason@...

Interesting PSU problem with a 246x unit
5
I'm working on fixing the 2nd 2465A supply in two weeks. I have a strange problem. I replaced a bad cap, but the psu still goes into tick mode even with a 2 ohm load on +5Vd. I've diagnosed it down to it appears that the +5Vd voltage is too high, ends up driving the feedback loop out of range and into shutdown. If I break the loop and manually feed an external feed voltage, everything works fine, the voltage changes with the external voltage, all supply voltages are fine. I've checked the simple feedback regulator, basically a comparator that's connected on the + input to 5v derived from the 10v ref, the - input is connected to +5Vd. Observing the comparator output as I change the external ref, it's working just fine. The +10V ref is also spot-on. I'm running out of ideas, the +5Vd line isn't regulated directly, it's just rectified from the switching transformer and filtered with a couple of caps. The voltage control is via the feedback loop. It will no doubt end up being something trivial and obvious, but I'm not seeing the forest for the trees at this point. Note that this is the same supply used in all the 246x scopes. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill
