Re: DPO7254 SPC Fail
The machine has plenty of clearance. I have tried running the SPC soon as I power it on and after it has been running for about 30-40 minutes. It keeps failing for the same code (** 1B failed -- no trigger found. **). I have reinstalled windows and software. What are my options.

Re: DPO7254 SPC Fail
Hi Paul,
Before you start the SPC Procedure the scope tells you the Purpose of this Procedure. That it failed after 5 minutes is a good sign. Maybe the internal temperature rises too much during this 5 minutes. Plese read the instructions about clearance. Thus not building it in between other instruments, obstructing airfliow etc. etc. Success, Egge Siert |
Re: DPO7254 SPC Fail
Yes I ran an SPC, it runs for about 5 minutes then fails. I was able to get the faults from the console, it points to something about the trigger. Here is the fault: SHOWTIME: SPC starting step : Trig gain/offset/hysteresis |

DPO7254 that is failing SPCDId you run the SPC? Can be (it is?) a damaged acquisition board. (Was one of the channels over-volted? or cable static discharge damage?) There is... at least... a resistor, a relay, a pre-amp in the channel input signal chain. (One...or all... might be damaged.) The Signal Path Compensation signal could be routed by a relay too. Do you see a measurement error on one or more of the channels?? You can substitute in a good acquisition board. Or,try to trace the signal chain on the bad channel(s)... to find the faulty component(s) Or live with the measurement error(s)? AFAIR you can run some tests (and see the results) in the Instrument Diagnostics page, under the Utilities menu Tek could (or could have) done component level repair to the acquisition board.? Not sure if they are doing that now (DPO7000 series has been replaced by MSOs) Another option is to find a parts unit with a good ack board. |
DPO7254 SPC Fail
Hello, I purchased a DPO7254 that is failing SPC. The channels seem to all work in all modes. Both 1mOhm and 50Ohm and all voltage ranges on all channels seem to be working properly but SPC keeps failing. What are the common causes for this and how do I go about repairing it. This is my first Tektronix. The only other experience I have with oscilloscopes is a rigol that I¡¯ve owned for 10 years.? If someone can put me in the right direction. Also, how do I retrieve error codes/logs? |

7633 CRO frame with service manual (no plugins, but might be available depending on demand). Hasn't be used for a long time, so would be advisable to do the 240V variac treatment (i ramp it up 20V per hour).
Also a 7490 service manual. <> Selling for a lowish amount and can be picked up at the EMDRC Car Boot Sale - Sunday 24 March 2024 10am-1pm EMDRC Clubrooms, 13a McCubbin St Burwood East Melbourne, Australia Also selling a vacuum chamber and couple of vacuum pumps among other things. Good for re-impgregnating flyback transformers. Chamber has glass door and a heater, so also useful for desiccating reels of SMD components. |

Re: Tek 7104, 7904, HP141T
Hi Russell,
Forgot to mention that i am happy to buy items from? you (or send money to your favorite charity)...eg Have been after a HP8444a tracking generator for the Hp141 for years, to go with the pre selector, i just repaired (also would love to get ANY extender to suite the above gear) Also, If a courier does not suit perhaps you could drop off at "pack and send who will pack it for you as well as send Cheers George |
Re: Tek 7104, 7904, HP141T
Hi Russell,
I am interested in MOST? of this equipment particularly a tracking generator for my HP141T (and? a RF, Audio, plugin) I am located in Sydney but i think i can get a courier to pick up from you without causing you too much trouble I too am a collector with a lot of Tek and Hp gear The 7104 would be nice (have a 7904 ) but perhaps too hard to get up to Sydney ?? I am very interested in Service Manuals and any extenders you have Anything you send me will be used and? carefully restored so it will go to a good home I'm retired these days and come from a Electronics Tech / Engineering background Worked for many years with this era of Tek HP equipment and just love it Hope to hear from you soon Cheers George Phone 0403165332 george.livanes@... |
Tek 7104, 7904, HP141T

Hi,
I've have a Tek 7104 with a 500MHz timebase plugin (7A29 ? it's around here somewhere) and a 7904. The 7104 looks new and i have a thick service manual for it. The 7904 is older looking and also has a manual. I've got like 20+ vertical and timebase plugins. I haven't switch them on for years but worked last time i used them. Would be good to gradually ramp up the mains voltage to reform the caps using a variac. I'm trying to make space, and so would be good for them to go to a suitable collector or someone that treats them well. I can deliver to the Melbourne (Australia) and surrounding regions. I won't post them (unless someone convinces me otherwise). I still do and think of analog stuff a lot, but the software and programming side of things (all aimed at analog electronic things eventually) means this gear won't be used for a long time. Also got an HP141T spec-an system with all the plugins to cover from audio to 18GHz, and its 2 tracking generators (an 8443B 100kHz-110MHz and a 8444A-opt059 0.5-1500MHz). Got service manuals for all of them iirc. It all worked last time i used them. The caps would probably need reforming. This gear is a bit clunky to use compared to more modern CPU controlled gear, but is very repaireable. I have extender cards for servicing around somewhere too. If there's too many takers, i would have to figure out the most worthy (probably someone that has the most gear, or that does the most impressive things). If there's no one, i'll take them to hamfests. |
Re: Converting TR502 tracking generator to TR503
The KO4BB website is not mine.? I just participated in a WIKI he operated in the past.? Apparently the TR502/TR503 conversion account (from about 15-years ago) was later saved to his website.? I found the link by searching for TR503 on the TEKWIKI websitesite. Bruce, KG6OJI |
Re: Converting TR502 tracking generator to TR503
Hi.
In this day and age... Take the 52.5MHz oscillator, divide by 21 to get 2.5MHz, then with a PLL lock a 55MHz VCO to that, via a divide by 22 counter. It depends what you want, especially if you need the best noise floor you can, though what the original spec was (for example) the 7L13 etc and TR502/3 combination I know not.? Fixed frequency PLL's with a narrow loop bandwidth, can be quiet, especially if the VCO doesn't need much pulling to keep on frequency. As to if it is cheaper than buying a "new" 55MHz crystal, who knows.? Depends I guess how you value your time. Re bench space...? How can a 7603 take up more space than a 494? Curious, unless you have the TM5xx rack for the TG alongside it! At Tek in the UK, when I was at Maidenhead, there were scope trolleys that could accommodate a TM504 below the scope (and that could be a 7704)? Very convenient.? The bench I had, had the utility TM504 on a shelf above it. Just idle random thoughts.. 73. Dave B. -- Sent from a MicroSoft free zone: |
Re: Converting TR502 tracking generator to TR503
Just replacing the crystal with a programmable oscillator might not work.? A varactor tweaks the crystal oscillator frequency for tracking adjustment.? There are programmable oscillators like the SI571 which include a control voltage input, so something like that could work.
