I knew a guy who would wash dusty/smoky electronic chassis in the sink avoiding transformers and electrolytic capacitors then dry them in an oven on warm for a few hours.? Perhaps drying in an oven at the unit's maximum storage temperature for a few hours would be a safe way to remove residual moisture.
