I also have a couple of these and have made a couple. Another common place you will see these types of nuts are on old Ford dash nuts, like for the headlight switch.

They have a limited use today but when you need one, you need one. Some people use needle nose pliers for example as a substitute but easy to scratch the nut or the case/housing/dash behind it.
