Excellent scope, I will add a few thoughts here having rebuilt a fair number of 7K hardware.

?

Everything that comes from secondary market will need some form of servicing. There are 2 sellers on Ebay that I know of that I will believe when they tell me the plugin is working and functional as well as calibrated. They tend to price things on the higher side but I have confidence in what is delivered.

?

EVERYTHING that I have gotten in to the lab in the 7K hardware has needed some kind of servicing. It could be as simple as cleaning the attenuator contacts to as complex as a full rebuild of the plugin followed by a calibration.

?

The 7K hardware is very robust. It might need a little TLC but once up and running I am confident in its ability to preform for a long time yet. The switch mode power supplies in the frames can be a REAL soar spot. It is also quite repairable for the most part with a few exceptions. ?

?

The listed plugins 7a26, 7B70, and 7B71 are a good match for the frame though you might want to be on the lookout for a 7B53A(100Mhz Dual) or a 7B92 / A (500Mhz) the dual time bases will free up a Horz bay for another plugin. I was not a fan of the 7B7X plugins for the way they implemented the trigger control. Lots of plastic and when it cracks it is REALLY hard to get something working again. If you still want to run dual plugins kick up to the 7B80 and 7B81 . DO NOT grab a 7b87. The 7B87 is kind of a special time base for the 7854 to allow single shot capture.

?

3 addition plugins that are really nice to have on hand.

7A22 1Mhz differential comparator (exceptional CMMR for the time)

7A13(digital) 100Mhz differential comparator with decent voltage offset.

7CT1 ¨C Curve tracer plugin for the 7K frames quite useful but also rare and expensive.

?

I have not any of the spectrum analyzer plugins for the 7K frames yet but I have heard from others that they are a headache to work on as there is a ton of stuff packed in to that little cube.

?

Just some thoughts,

Subject: [TekScopes2] 7000 Series Plugins

?

Hello all,

I just purchased a Tek 7704, my first "real" scope. I have a couple portables (Tek 454 and HP 1741A) but have never had the chance to work with anything like a 7000 series before.

I currently have acquired the following plugins:

2x 7A26 Dual Vertical Amplifier
1x 7A70 Single Timebase
1x 7A71 Delaying Timebase
1x 7D15 Counter/Timer

The following is my wishlist of plugins:

7D12 (with sample and hold module)
7D13 Multimeter
7D01 with DF02 Formatter
7M13 Readout Unit
7L5 Spectrum Analyzer
7S11/7T11 Sampling Plugins

If anyone happens to have a surplus of 7000 series plugins they're looking to sell I'd be interested, I'd eventually like to amass a nice selection of plugins, so I'm open to more than just the above list. That's just the immediate wishlist from skimming the 7000 series plugins page on the wiki.
Please let me know if this type of post isn't allowed here, I am new to this group (and message groups in general).

Regards,
-David
