Undecided 465M

I have a 465M that just cannot decide whether it wants to be on or off. It powers up fine (with a crispy trace!), then the power LED blinks with no kind of timing at all. As this is happening, the trace restarts from the left.
I don't have the manual for this model yet. Any and all suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Darrin,

I find a lot of bad power cords in the older scopes (453s) due to
age and maybe some abuse - pulling plug out by the cord, sharp
bends, etc.

Use an ohm meter to check continuity of the cord from the blades in
the plug (switch on/off). Should be probably about 5 to 10 ohms
(judging from older scopes.) Wiggle the cord around the plug and
along its length, watching for the ohm meter to jump around.

And, while you are at it, check the continuity of the grounding wire
from plug to chassis. That is the first to go. More than half the
453 and 454 scopes I've checked had an open or intermittant ground.

Check for loose fuses, or fuses with corroded terminals.

Since the LED probably runs off one of the DC supplies, that would
be the next thing to check. I don't have a schematic for the 465,
so I cannot help there. Check if all low power supplies go off at
the same time. (Hopefully someone can give you specific test
points.)

Good luck,
-Howard
