TM500 / 5000 Extenders

I've offered these in the past. I made them for my own use, and for forum members. Since then I have become an Amazon seller so I've added the new updated version of the extenders there (see link below). I'm selling the fully built set for $45. For group members, I will sell the bare PC boards, or the PC boards with the SMT components on them, if anyone wants it in kit form. Email me off list if you're interested in the "kit" option.
If you get just the PC boards, you will need the 60 pin sockets, ribbon cable (w/ connectors), board pullers (optional), and the 56-pin edge connector (and optional polarizing key between pins 6 and 7).
I could even put together a complete kit for fellow Tek-heads, again just email me off-list and we'll figure it out.
I am not trying to make a profit, just giving back to the group. The Amazon fully-built set takes a bit of time to build (about 200 solder connections) which is why I'm asking $45 for it.

I'm sold! I just bought two. This is a higher feature design than I've seen anywhere else. And the price is very low considering what it is.
I can't tell you how many times I've blow fuses from having my current extender slide down in the slot and short out.

Thanks for pointing the way to these. Very nice work.

Dan has found an area in an underserved niche market for high quality
Extenders, Adapters and Test Jigs.
Hopefully some more of the group members will encourage him to continue
production.

I offer a TM500/TM5000 extender kit with wire for $18 and $3.57 tracked postage in the US for a total of $21.57
including wire, and a pair of tweezers, but not money transfer fees -- that's if you pay by check. Add 4% in US for paypal use.

Dan, I received your extenders. They are beautiful. Tektronix would be jealous! I really apreciate the attention to detail and cool ideas you employed. Since I got a pair I can finally run both AA500 analyzers at the same time to check their calibration. Thank you, Thank you for making these.

Dan,

Do the electronic components on your board make it incompatible to extend the 5000 series mainframe scopes? I see that pads 3 & 4 are ganged together. Does that also make it incompatible?

I've got a 5CT1N curve tracer that I need to work on with my 5440 and would love to use your extender as long as it does melt it. Pin 1A has 200v on the mainframe.

Thanks, Rick

Dan, these look great but will you be making more? I'd be interested in two. If you're so inclined the "complete kit" format would be my first choice, to save me a few bucks and you some flux smoke. Fully built would be my second choice.

Thanks,
Fred

I have no idea but I suspect they aren't compatible. If it helps, I uploaded a drawing showing the pinouts for the TM500/5000. The file is Tek500_5000_Pinouts.png.
There are a couple of signals that use multiple pins. Do you know if the connectors are the same (56 pins)? And there are keys that should prevent plugging a module into a non-compatible socket. On the TM500/5000, they are keyed between pins 6 and 7 (from the bottom).

Dan,

Is that image in an album?? There's no way to search for individual images on groups.io yet.? Can we get the album name or the image link?

Good Day,

The TM500/5000 interface connectors are *incompatible* with the 5000-series o'scopes.
Just don't.

It's not only a matter of mechanical fit - as Tektronix has wisely prevented incorrect insertions by design - the aforementioned notches.
Pins A1 to A13 and B1 to B13 are completely incompatible - the mentioned +200 VDC supply present at pin A1 on the 5000-series o'scopes is just one example of many incompatibilities.

You have been warned...

Cheers,

Magnus

Hello group!
For anyone that is interested in these extenders, either fully built or parts, I ran out of everything from the Amazon orders. I'm sorry that I had to give the Amazon orders priority, but Amazon really takes the "ship within 3 days" seriously so I had to scramble to get those 20 built / tested / shipped.
For anyone that got one late, I'm sorry about that. I really had no idea that I would sell more than a few a month!
I have bought new PC boards and I have all parts on hand for another 20 - except for the 56 pin edge connectors, which are due by the first week in Feb.
If anyone has a source for that connector I could sell you everything else right now (either built up or parts). Otherwise, once I get those and finish up another batch of boards I'll be getting in touch with group members FIRST, then I'll put more up on Amazon after that. Several of you are out of the USA so I want to try to get boards shipped to you (Amazon is not set up for outside USA).
FYI - the new batch of boards I got with YELLOW mask... they look pretty cool but I am a little disappointed that the silkscreen (black) is not as easy to read. I have some of the blue boards left, but after that they will be yellow.
THanks again for the great interest in these. If anyone has any suggestions for changes, let me know. I am making small tweaks now for the next version (if I need more).
Or any other type of boards that people might like, I'm up for that, too.
Dan

Dan,

I'm definitely interested, either built or kit is fine.

I have no problem paying now to get a future delivery.

Maybe others would be open to advance payment.

Erik
