7704A, good deal?

Ok. Thanks.

You're right. I checked a physical 7S12. The trigger pickoff socket (J101) at
the back of the left compartment ends in ... nothing. No cable, no connection...
Then your 7S12 is missing something Raymond. The trigger pickoff signal is properly terminated into R101, 51 ohm. The resistor is hidden under insulation tape directly at the body of the connector.

You got me there, Albert. I saw the black insulation and thought nothing of it. However, nothing ever is as simple as one expects.
I checked my 3 7S12's, all sockets had a piece of heat-shrink tube but: In one, the termination resistance is 50Ohm, in the second, 120Ohm and in the third, 0Ohm. No typos, I checked. Incredible, I checked several times. I wonder what I'd encounter, had I more 7S12's...

The only way with a 7S12 is a trigger recognizer (S-53) in the rightmost compartment, where normally the pulser lives.Raymond

7T11 is a triggering plug-in for the slot to the right of the 7S12.? I've
played with the S-51 and S-53 but not the 7T11
Yes, the S-51 is a synchronizer, producing a trigger pulse synchronized with a signal between 1 and 18GHz, every 15us or so. The S-53 recognizes all trigger events up to about 1GHz.
The 7S12 needs a vertical and a horizontal slot. It can provide a direct connection to a 7S11 vertical plugin to its left side, allowing two signal inputs with the 7S12 used as general purpose sampling plugin.
The 7S11 is a timebase plugin for creating a sampling 'scope, using one or two 7S11's to its left for the vertical signal(s) and direct module-to-module connections, bypassing the 'scope's backplane. It cannot be used with a 7S12. It is much more feature-rich than a 7S12's timebase section but is more fiddly to use effectively. It has no inbuilt TDR facilities like the 7S12. It has both internal and external trigger facilities.

That's correct, Raymond.? BTW, the 7S11 does exist, and it is a sampling plug-in with room for one sampling head, such as an S-4 or S-6.? It goes to the left of a 7S12 to make a 2-channel sampling scope.? ? ?JimSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Yeah, that's where I made a mess of it. I had meant to say:
"The 7T11(A) is a timebase plugin for creating a sampling 'scope, using one or two 7S11's to its left for the vertical signal(s) and direct module-to-module connections, bypassing the 'scope's backplane."

Nice toys! I'm using a 7T11A with an S-11 in the middle two compartments of a 7854.

Status Update

The person brought me the scope, no accessories. Just the scope and the plugins.
I decided the run the 2 configurations suggested to me offline by Dave and Peter H.
At first we couldn¡¯t get anything like the picture Peter linked. So I took out my 7623 to get the configuration of the scope as close as possible to the image. And upon turning it on, happy smoke came out the back (A LOT!!), and the fan didn¡¯t spin¡. As if I didn¡¯t have enough to fix already¡

We finally figured out why we had nothing¡. the 7B70 the scope came with was bad. I used another Time Base module (7B10), and all came to life. Not ¡°exactly¡± like the image, but I figured it was still working. BTW, smoke came out of the 7B70 as well, after my phone accidentally hit the top of the scope¡

Anyhow, I bought the whole thing for 250€ (+/- $280)
I will link some pictures in a following post.

PS: Upon visual inspection, nothing seems burnt inside the 7B70.

Yep. LOL.

Thanks Jim.

I¡¯m guessing a RIFA cap opened. If so, (a) it should be ok to power it up again and (2) it¡¯s a pretty simple repair.

It's alive!
The first picture just shows the S-52's pulses. The second shows the sampling is at least basically working.
Promising!

I suspect a tantrum (Tantulum) caps did their thing as well as a possible electrolytic.
